AHC: Have the Sturmabteilung survive under a Hitler Regime

The AH Challenge is to have Rohm and the SA survive as a large organization under the Nazi government. Now I know people will want to have a coup for the SA, but it has to be in a world where Hitler is still in charge of Germany.

I made a little quickly mini-scenario where Hitler joined the Navy, followed by the Freikorps then the Nazi party where he was both a major figure of the SA. It had a reformed SA taking the place of the SS and then being 'tamed' once Hitler became the leader of Germany.

I would link it, but i cant remember where i posted it. No real loss tho, i wrote it up real quick without thinking about it much.

The SA predated the SS, without Hitler being the leader of Nazi Party there would be no SS.

Would having Rohm die in an accident give Hitler a chance to reign in the SA before it gets too much independence? IIRC, he purged them because he was starting to lose control of them. OTOH, if he keeps the SA around, he'll have to rehabilitate their image in the eyes of the people as their reputation for violence and street fighting would've harmed Hitler's efforts at gaining legitimacy in the German political scene.

I think it would have to be a purge of the Stennes Berlin SA group.

Heydrich was never discharged, and continued his navy career. Without his building up the National Socialists' counterintelligence service, Himmler would never be able to gain the sort of power he did, and might actually have been arrested (the other candidate for the job was a police plant). This leaves the SA as the sole "reliable" force of Hitler's.

Of course, we would have to consider whether Hitler would have come to power without Heydrich's gift, but maybe we can get around that.
