WI Belissarius is assassinated during the Siege of Rome in 538 AD?

In 537-538 AD Genereal Belissarius was besieged in Rome by Witige's Ostrogoths.
The siege had come to a stalemate by early 538 when a digruntled soldier named Constantinus attempted to assassinate Belissarius.
However the quick intervention of Belissarius's deputy Bessas saved him.

WI Belissarius was assassinated that day? Would his death be a severe morale blow for the Roman troops? His would be assassin was slain on the spot but soon rumours began to circulate that he has been bribed by Ostrogoths to remove Belissarius.
Is it possible that after Belissarius's death Romans would opt to abandon Rome retreating to Naples?
