Repubblica Serenissima

Here is a first map of a timeline I am working on, I need to check some names, and I will probably change borders (I haven't payed much attention to Geographic or Ethnic stuff while making this map.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...rix/MapRS2.jpg

Some notes come with this map:

1.) The Companic States (colored blue) have evolved from the colonial companies (like the United East Indian Company) their might was bigger, and in the blue area's they remained and eventually founded nations in which the Company is the State, the Party and a Monopolistic Company.

2.) Byzantium isn't the Eastern-Roman Empire, however is based around it. The Byzantines do like to regard themselves as the East-Roman Empire, but the East-Roman Empire fell even earlier then in OTL (later on some Christians would relaunch it)

3.) The name Alliance for Justice is pure propaganda, the AFJ is basicly the most Expansionist Alliance, Tibet and Afghanistan are puppets of Arabia.

4.) Untill 1870 just about all of Europe was balkanized (Spain, France, Italy and Germany didn't exist.) The following 135 years saw this change.

5.) The war for Spanish Succession was disastrous for Spain and France, so disastrous that they were just about split up. France continued exisisting into the 20th Century, however masses of people (including the royals) had moved to Louisiana-Quebec (were France was doing quite well) and France slowly merged with the Commonwealth.

6.) The Commonwealth is one of the strongest nations, the (dutch) Orange Family reigns it, however the English dominate. There is alot of local soevereignity, it is both economical strong and the home of many resistance groups.

7.) The other strong nation is the Reppublica Serenissima, from which viewpoint the timeline will happen (it will be told through books and a website, complete with propaganda)

8.) Socialism and Communism never happens, Anarchism does however in a alternative form. A broad movement called Solidarism does springs up, which include some type of a extreme socialist movement (also calling for a class revolution) Solidarists let themselves be heard between 1875 and 1920, however it dies away after this, but the movement still exists.

Well, the AH is inspired on various AH's, it will be worked out similiar to this Finnish Alternative History, my knowledge of finnish is limited, however I assume that it is much of the website is propaganda. The colors on the map I made are also based on the map of this AH.

The website will also include a "Università di Riva del Garda" part, which will have objective documentation in a similiar way to the RP's of Tony Jones, although I will mainly use PDF files, order in a website on different issue's (Foreign Politics, Technology/Defense, History)

Where is the Repubblica Serenissima ? I can't see it on the map ? Or is it intended to be another name for Venice ?

Indeed, it is latin for the Most Serene Republic, which is the state-form of Venice.

If you want to write it from the Venetian POV, I suggest you learn some basic Italian.

Italian words have something English words don't: gender. It might sound ridiculous, but that's how it stands with all Romance languages. It's "Nuovo Milano" and "Nuovo Torino", yes, but "Nuova Padova", "Nuova Verona", "Nuova Genova", "Nuova Firenze", "Nuova Sardegna". These things are easy to check with wikipedia, so there's no excuse.

Also, it's "Castille", "Tierra del Fuego", "Morocco", and "Brasil", not "Castillia", "Fuego" (that simply means "fire"), "Morroco", and "Brasillia".

Thanks for the advice, I have mainly been working at the history and the graphics of the site, and I already said that it was only a first version, and that I still needed to do some checking (these kind of things were exactly the ones which I was planning to check....) anyway, thanks for your help!

Also generally, the map isn't necessarily in the Venetian Language....the whole thing will be in english, and for nations who have a seperate english spelling for their name, the name will be english. For example, India (even though it is owned by a formerly-Venetian Company) remains India (it was already called India before the Venetians arrived,) however the colony Nuovo Milano is Nuovo Milano and not New Milan (this is mainly from the same though as that Venezuela is just called Venezuela and not Little Venice)
