2004 Republican primary challenge
What if Bush received a primary challenge or two in 2008? Say Lincoln Chaffee runs as the last rockefeller Republican and Ron Paul also jumps in as a libertarian anti-war challenger.

Bush would likely still win the nomination, but the damage would be done. Expect the antiwar Republicans (yes, there are some) to vote for them, thus possibly reducing support for Antiwar Dems. (Possibly Lieberman might even get the Democratic nomination.) Whoever wins the Democratic nod might have a better chance of winning with Chaffee and Paul possibly not endorsing Bush. (Perhaps the third parties do better this TL?)

It's possible... considering how close the general election was, I wouldn't be surprised.
You mean '04, right?

I doubt it. McCain won in 2008 largely because of foreign policy.

2008 was a definite typo. I didn't mean for this to be a DBWI.

Delay Saddam's capture and Chafee enters the primaries as the anti-Iraq War Republican. He planned to in OTL but decided it would seem unpatriotic after Saddam was captured.
