I still think that making a .gif animation is much more interesting and useful than posting different maps of the same world. Let me find an old TL of mines to demonstrate.

Edit: Ici

I don't think anyone's denying that it's intresting, but most people don't know how to make a .gif, and like me are probably too lazy to learn.

Also, that's pretty sweet, though I would slow it down a bit so people can take it all in.

A World of Cliches, A World of Platitude.
1950-1959.

Europe

Hitler died on 22nd July 1954, of a heart attack. A National Day of Mourning was declared in the Reich.

Rudolf Hess takes over as Fuhrer of the Greater Germanic Reich.

The Union of Balt States becomes a Nazi puppet, and pressure is on Lithuania and Byelorussia to become so.

The Byzantine Empire of Hellas raises claims on all of Greater Serbia.

A book is written, by an Jew exile from Germany to Switzerland, writing all about the horrors of the camps and her lucky escape. People in Germany is now more suspicious of the Nazis.

The Batavian Kingdom holds its first "Celebration of Life", a colourful parade, that cheers people up so much, that it is done annually.

Asia

Japanese troops kick all the enemies out of Manchukuo, and signs a peace treaty with the Russians, Mongolians and Commie Chinese.

Through secret Indian aid, Mongolia pushes back the Russians.

The Republican and Communist Chinese faces British invasion.

Africa

The Nazi puppet French government leads an assault on Madagasar, taking it away from Free French control.

The Union of South Africa demands, and gets Namibia and Botswana.

North America

The settlement of Japanese anti-fascists in Alaska reaches a high point, and some Russians jokingly calls it the "Aresko Problem"

The United States' Manifest Destiny resurges again, this time in a proposal for a peaceful annexation of Cascadia. The Cascadians view this with distaste, as they are definetly not Yankees, but Cascadians.

Mexico admits Medio California as a state, but Nuevo Mexico, Nevada and Alta California is still territories.

The Confederacy is thriving, with the kind and just President, Jake Featherston, leading it. His autobiography, A Simple Dream, is very popular amongst Confederates.

The Republic of Quebec, an US puppet, in contrast, is suffering. Its government is corrupt, the President universally hated, and always-delayed elections never comes.

Texas is getting along fine.

South America

Brazilian hegemony is feared by Argentina and Colombia, so they form an alliance, the League for Spanish America" Peru, Bolivia and Chile has been invited, and the first two accepted. Chile didnt respond.

Oceania

In the Australasian Commonwealth, Kevin Wilkinson is sworn in office as the President in 1954, following Richard Edwards. Wilkinson lasts until 1958, then Daniel Galloway takes over.

Okay, now that this thread is sticked i will continue here this series. The year is around 1715.

The Ottoman Empire started to collapse, seceding various territories and suffering the Persian invasion of Iraq and a new invasion of Austria, Venice and Naples-Italy. It was saved from complete ruin because of the Franco-Savoiard war.

In fact, Louis XIV managed to impose the rights of his nephew Philip in Spain without problems, thanks to the British indifference, the Italo-Austrian expansionism in the East, and that Dutch in India. But the Sun King wanted to expand his kingdom more and looked towards the French held holded by Savoia. Vittorio Amedeo refused, and Louis XIV declared war. Naples-Italy, Venice and Austria joined in help of Savoia against France and Spain, determinated to retake South Italy. The war was fought in three fronts, on the Rhein, on the Alps, and in the Mediterranean.

In the end, Louis XIV made an agreement with Naples-Italy, obtaining Savoy and Nice but pushing the Duchy of Piedmont-Milan (new name of the Duchy of Savoia) to become an Italian vassal. Also Austria obtained reassurations about its monopoly in Germany, more strong thanks to the victory of Sweden in the great war of the North.

In fact, Denmark, Poland-Saxony and Russia attacked Sweden, but Karl XII defeated one after another, thanks also to the new manpower offered by the German provinces. Denmark was extromitted by Norway; Saxony and Poland broke their union and Courland passed in Swedish lands, connecting also Prussia with the Baltic provinces, while Austria took advantage from the situation grabbing Moldavia and imposing its control; Russia not only lost Karelia, but was also forced to recognize the indipendence of Ukraine as a republic. The Etman Mazeppa started a reform of the country inspiring to the Dutch.

For Russia, the situation was tragic; riots scattered everywhere and Peter failed to impose his authority, while the ultraconservatives worked to impose on the throne his son Alexei, who lived in exile in Naples with his lover and his son Ivan. Karl XII followed with attention further developments...

In India, the Moghul started to face the Marathi opposition and looked towards the Portughese, which regained strenght thanks to the Spanish weakness, and in exchange of militar aid start to expand their domains in India. But also the Low Countries started to expand too in South India...

Third map of the series about a Vasa dynasty in Italy. We are now around 1750.

The Russian Empire collapsed after the death of Peter I. Alexei was recalled from the exile and leaded a revolt against Catherine I. Karl XII decided to intervene, but the cost of Swedish intervention was really high: Pskov, Novgorod and Archangelsk ceded to Stockholm, among with the northern coast until the islands of New Zemlya, while Ukraine captured Rostov and the lower Don, Poland grabbed Kiev and Smolensk, and in the end South Russia under Alexei remained indipendent.

While North Russia become a sort of Swedish protectorate (at least until the Urals), and this helped the government of Moscow to somehow modernize its country, South Russia was indipendent but imposed a rigid conservative policy. Both of the Russias needed however new resources, and played the card of expansion in more virgin lands, in Circassia (for South Russia) and in Central Asia (both of two). In this second land, despite their efforts, almost half of it felt under the grip of Persia.

Persia was living a new golden age: the European merchants helped to modernize the country without compromising its indipendence like the Moghuls; its more modern army helped the nation of the Shahs to conquer Afghanistan and reaching the Indus western border. The Persians however wanted to become the greatest muslim power, and to do so they needed to control the region of Mecca and Medina. So, they started to send garrisons and colonists in the Arabic desert, in order to subjugate it to have a base to seize the Hedjaz from the Ottomans...

The Persian influence started to exercise in Dzungaria, which needed strong allies against an expansionist Qing Empire. The Persians accepted to help that country, and to send military advisors. The Dzungars not only stopped the Qing expansionism, but started to dream about an expansion towards East...

Europe was living a period of peace, as the actual status quo found a general approvation. The Atlantic powers focused their attention to colonial expansions. In North America, France played a great role, because an agreement with Great Britain: the British gave them free hand in most of the continent in exchange of a non interference of Paris in the Indian affairs. Another agreement with Spain granted to the French the right to colonize all the lands north of Santa Fe, estabilishing a sort of new Rayon. The French, after connecting Louisiana with Canada, launched their efforts to the conquest of the West...

In North America however the British and the French started to pay attention to the first steps of the Swedish colonialism: in his last years of reign, Karl XII wanted a colony in Vinland. After "cordially" convincing the Danes to sell them Iceland and the Far Oers, the Swedish estabilished outposts in Greenland and Labrador, founding the colony of Vinland. Both the British in the Hudson bay and the French in Newfoundland looked with suspect to this new colonial power...

India continued its fragmentation. The Moghul defeat in the war against the Persians advantaged the Marathi confederation, while Portugal, United Provinces and Great Britain continued to consolidate their holdings.

A fourth contender soon arrived: the Kingdom of Naples-Italy. Despite problems caused from the incursions of the Barbar states, the Italians started to build the first outposts in Africa, in the gulf of Niger, then in Natal, and in Madagascar. The Italian strategy for now was to avoid the contact with the Moghuls and the Marathi, and looked instead more towards Persia, who accept to sold them the port of Karachi...

Anglo-Japanese Alliance. It was the main reason Britain kept out of the Second World War, it didnt want to lose the alliance with a rising power. The TL is NOT supposed to make sense at first.

Alternate Migration. More from the South, much less from the East. And because of Southern xenophobia.

But South Baja has about 500 000 people has like 10-14 million (not sure about your boundary vs. wikipedias). Even if South Baja experienced much more immigration and California much less there is not getting around the fact that South Baha is inhospitable desert while Northern California is fertile farmland.
