I'm looking for African symbols

Hi,

I'm looking for any African symbol, pattern, animal or particular color who can be put on a flag or coat of arms.

The three colors of panafricanism aside, which imao don't fit together, the continent seem to be lacking of theses.

I know there's not many TL about Africa here, but if you can post here any OTL or created ATL African mentioned related stuff, it would be great.

Theres an cool flag of Benin Empire

Also in West Africa there is a lot of sculptures of people and animals with elongated faces, like a Maoi but rounded, which I think would look good on a flag.

Also there is a TL called Ethiopia of the West about a surviving Songhai Empire by The Kiat. Its worth a look if your looking for TLs.

Some African states (Dahomey springs to mind) changed their flag with every new king, similar to how European states often altered their coats of arms to reflect royal marriages.

The Lesothan shield is really peculiar looking. What's it made from ? Does it have a name ?

P.S. Years ago, I thought it was meant to be two spears with the fur of some skinned animal at the centre.

Mali had a habit of using this little stick-man in the early-mid 20th Century:

It's a Basotho shield, but I can't find a picture of a real one.

Here's a more recent flag of Lesotho, featuring the traditional Basotho hat

That's called a "Kanaga" and was supposed to symbolise solidarity with other African peoples/the human race. Apparently they took it off because of the Muslim proscription against depicting humans in art.

I always liked it when I was growing up and saw it in the flag book, but in retrospect it's pretty obvious that it was inspired by the Nazi flag.

I hadn't realized that before

Damn. Nazis ruin everything. Even Africa.

That being said, I do remember trying to come up with a fascist flag for Britain a few years ago and thinking that I could always recolor Zaire's since it reminded me a bit of the old Tory logo
