Balkanize Your Country thread.

I think you would all enjoy something like this. Take your country, or any country, and balknize it. PReferably with an explanation but it is not needed.

I made a thread on 4chan /int/ in the past about 'balkanize your country' and someone uploaded this for brazil.

a somewhat inaccurate map (Occitan borders arent the exact ones IMO) for Balkanizing France. I will post more images of balkanized countries as I get around my rummage files, some of which were uploaded in this site of all places!

Canada -

Quebec separates in 1976 through a violent rebellion.

Because supply routes are cut off, Atlantic Canada grows poorer, especially with the grand banks being fished to exhaustion. New Brunswick joins with Quebec and the rest of the Atlantic Provinces join and form Acadia in 1980. The government allows this because they do not want the financial burden of these provinces. However they keep the rights to Halifax as an important port.

In 1986, oil rich Alberta does not want to share it's wealth with Ontario forms the separatist Western Bloc with Sask and BC.

Not wanting to separate any further, the federal government does not recognize the new nation as it did the other two.

In 1990, French Ontario is also seeking cultural independence and in a referendum, Temiskaming is annexed by Quebec.

In 1995, the government finally allows a referendum for the western block. Although being popular in Alberta and rural Saskatchewan, it is narrowly defeated by the BC. Alberta officially declairs separatism. Soldiers are sent in from Canada proper who formed an alliance with Quebec in order to hold the west.

In 1999, Nunavut is formed. But also in that year there are widespread Cree rebellions in Dryden, Churchill, Kenora and Moosonee, but were squashed,

As the rebelions were beginning to be forgotten about, in 2002, the Algonquin rebellions occurred in western Ontario. Followed by the Iriqouis Rebelions in 2003 in the Karwarthas.

In 2005, Karwartha, Northern Ontario and Stoney Creek all become autonomous regions within Canada. And in 2006, the southern portion of Vancouver Island is also transformed into an autonomous region.

In 2008, the Western Bloc Finally separates after another referendum that included Manitoba, however it was not a factor, as separatism became popular in the BC interior.

On 21 December, 2012, just as many a wanker at AH.Com had predicted, the Hellenic Republic collapse upon itself after a horde of neo-nazis and anarchists that appeared out of nowhere ripped the country apart. Times were tough in Greece, until thanks to the help of the Eurozone and Cyprus, Greece was salvaged.

Athens, however, was lost. Athens became the Anarcho-Communist Compound of Athens and under a "democratically"-elected anarcho-communist government, Alexandra Papariga has become a benevolent dictator. The state has shut itself off from the world, made every citizen an employee of the state, following an-economic plan quite similar to that of the USSR.

In Luxembourg at the European Court of Justice, King Constantine II sued the collapsed-Hellenic Republic for his throne back, and won. Some believe that the president of the court, Vassilios Skouris, was a bit biased, but nevertheless, the Kingdom of Greece was reinstated on 15 February, 2013 with its capital in Patra. However, control only extends to the Southern half of Greece, minus Crete and some of its adjacent islands. The Kingdom is based off of the British model and some criticise the Kingdom for its allowance of the Eurozone to station itself in Greece and actually have a temporary hand in policy-making.

Cyprus, being much more stable, offered the northern half of Greece, the side completely unwilling to join the Kingdom to become part of Cyprus. After a population exchange of monarchists to the south and republicans to the north, only 12 April, 2013, northern Greece entered into Enosís with the Republic of Cyprus.

The Holy Mountain also peacefully seceeded from the Republic of Cyprus on May 9th, 2013, as well.

Only time will tell the world if the problems in Greece will be fixed and if communist, monarchist, and republican can come together as one Greek-population...

Er... we do have rightwing and far left fools in the sovereignity movement, but we won't ever use weapons and fighting to separate... A good lot of the movement is actualy pacifist, and there is a famous book called 'For a Quebec without army'.

This will happens more if a radical freak in *Ottawa* or such go crazy... And even then, just probably enforce a Octobre 70 2,0.

The Ethiopian civil war separates all of Ethiopia and not only Eritrea.

Heck, if the Greek government did collapse that's actually pretty plausible if you think about it. A Sort of 'Vatican of the East'. Really, it's de facto independent as is.

I was thinking a more extreme version of the FLQ that was mishandled by the sitting government.

Balkanized America has been done. I'm balkanizing my state instead... as part of a more general balkanization of America.

This is a drastically ASB-ified worst case scenario of the crisis that would follow Illinois legalizing slavery in 1824.

The political battle lasts several years, but ultimately the northern states secede and President Jackson launches a war to get them back. The war drags on for years. The northern splinter claims to be the real USA but everyone calls it New England even though it extends well beyond that region. On this map it's "USA/NE." NE contests much of the Great Lakes region with the rump USA. Central Illinois is an important battleground.

Politics shifts in Illinois itself, and ultimately most of the settlers outside the far south ("Egypt") decide that they, too, would prefer to leave the rump USA. Illinois secedes but does not join the New England splinter, instead joining with several other far western states and territories to form the United Republics of North America, a loose confederacy of frontier states. It survives only because of the troubles back east that prevent reconquest.

Finally, the settlers of Egypt leave Illinois to rejoin the USA as the State of Harrison.

So what had been the borders of Illinois is divided among:
* USA/New England Illinois, representing the land that northern troops managed to occupy before the cease-fire.
* URNA Illinois, the most legitimate successor to the original state. The capital was moved from Vandalia to Edwardsville when the former town found itself threatened by US troops.
* Harrison, the far south, part of the USA
* Indiana: the Indiana militia reoccupied this part of Illinois for the US; after a plebiscite the people there chose to join Indiana.
* The Indian Territory of the North: A dumping ground for Sauk, Fox, and Winnebago people, but who managed to cling to their upper Mississippi lands and avoid absorption into any states of USA/NE in exchange for help during the wars.

This map shows the situation from around 1850 to 1900, after the situation settled but before the new crises at the beginning of the 20th century.

Damn, this thread is a dream come true !

I'll remake my old map of balkanized Slovakia from my European Crimson Skies TL and post it here soon, I promise.

I'm from Quebec and let me tell you, the FLQ threat was REALLY overblown in media and ROC. It was an handful of peoples, and inflitrated by RCMP...

So, the only real to bring civil unrest would have been, say, Trudeau going NUT (with CIA HELP?) and pulled a Prague. Actually, OT had slight shades of it, and nothing really happened...

You'd have to go farther in time, have a british rule/ottawa that was HARDCORE oppressive on our ancestors, then...

Because I'm bloody Greek that's why, and learn to read a post before you ask "what that brown thing up north" is next-time.

No one I know of has tried to change that rule besides the EU, who cordially backed off when the state declined.

Indeed it is: you need to get permission to visit from Holy Mountain, not from the Republic.

Not to mention the fact they use Byzantine time and the Julian calendar.
