United States State & Canadian Provincial Boundaries Page?

Based on a question asked in a thread in the Pre-1900 forum, I would like to suggest that a page be created (if it doesn't already exist) that discusses how OTL U.S. states and Canadian provinces got their shapes and gives links to various maps in our forums as examples of alternate state and provincial lines. Thank you.

I'd also like to suggest similar pages (or sections on the same page) regarding other times and places. For example: Colonial Africa and after.
