The Afrika Reich
Currently thumbing through The Afrika Reich by Guy Saville. Anyone had a chance to read it yet?

No. Though I recall someone bringing it up about a year ago when I was browsing through the site. How much was it? And the map seems rather odd, as Britain was going to keep it's colonies, Liberia is basically an American protectoare in real life, and it mentions southern Angola as "Nazi-Occupied Angola" suggesting they invaded it. Plus the map is screwy.

If Aquatoriana hasn't been flooded it should really be spelled: Äquatoriana
(but Äquatoria sounds just as fine)

Don't criticize this story or its map. I tried that already in the last thread about this book to the total dismay of its fans.

Yes There plot is implausible not so much from the AH aspect but on the number of times Burton, Patrick and the Angolan girls manage to become captured and escape. The violence seemed a bit overdone In practice it would have only happened once in fact Burton seems to live a charmed life.
However that was the bad point about the book , I enjoyed reading it. The end left things hanging however. Does Burton go back to England to avenge his betrayer and live happily ever after with Madeliene? More importanly what happens afterwards in Africa? There is definately scope for a sequel. |
