Weapons of the Race

Some of you may have noticed me plugging Steel Panthers here last week. It's a modern turn base wargame that covers the years 1950-2020. It has dozens of nation you can play, with details Orders of Battles(OOBs).

And you can create your own OOBs...

So now I want to create a Race OOB, but I want to make sure I have a definative list of their weapons and such. Anyone want to help?

How so? They have:

Landcruisers
Killercraft
Infantrymales armed with assault rifles and body armor
APCs
Cruise missiles
Nuclear weapons
Starships (Kind've doubt that will be a factor...)

You looking for help with specs?

Yeah the specs. The game is ground base, so the most interaction one would have from aircraft is airsupport and copters.

I know the the Landcruiser is roughly equal to the M1A1, although smaller for the smaller Lizard frame. For gameplay reasons I would probably make them strong enough to fight an M1A2 on equal grounds.

Does turtledove mention machine guns and the like or did he limit it to assault rifles? Did he mention a squad size for Lizards. Drats I'm gonna have to bury through the series again.

I actually now have just started to read the first book in the Worldwar series. Turtledove does mention machine guns in the first books a few times.

I don't remember if he makes mention of things like grenade launchers... it's the details that are hazy here.

My initial thought is that the Race's weaponry is roughly equal to US tech at the end of the 20th century, thought variations among vehicles are few and far between. Thus, only one type of tank, one APC, one jet fighter, one helicopter, one infantry rifle, etc. All the vehicles wopuld be hydrogen powered, whether as a steam turbine type engine or a combustion type is unclear. Oh, and no navy at all. Add in fission weapons, I don't recollect them mentioning or using thermonuclear/fusion weapons, only fusion power for the starships.

I remember a squad of infantrymales were called a small group. hence a character in the colonization was a small group leader. I believe it was squad size, a dozen or so males, maybe a bit less.

for weapons I think all he ever showed was assault rifles. no hand guns, no sub machine guns...

Actually this was a problem I ran into when trying to write a fanfic about the Race, Turtledove doesn't give much detail about what kind of weapons they used. But most of it is basically weapons used presently. Seriously, Turtledove seems to have no imagination in using tech.

The Race used a nuclear weapon very early on in the war.

Out of the scale of the game you see... strictly tactical.

I don't think machine guns were ever mentioned, just assault rifles, grenades, etc. I think it's eight males to a squad. Oh, and they also have infantry anti-tank rockets. The APCs and Landcruisers have some SAMs.

Attack Helicopter would probably be equivalent to an Apache and the Killercraft equivalent to F-18 or maybe F-22.
