Right-o I'll give his schemes a try.

Looks like a good bunch of maps this time! Alas, I have other projects on my hands this week, so I may be sitting this one out. But what do people like for the next contest? I could go for either of these, myself:

In the Wake of Giants
Make a map depicting the aftermath of the decline of a large empire, powerful civilisation, or major international organisation. (Examples from OTL may include the Khanates that formed following the fragmentation of the Mongol Empire, Europe following the division of the Frankish Empire, the Diadochi following the death of Alexander the Great, the former British empire following decolonisation, and so forth).

That's the one where you have to make a map of a utopia and a dystopia co-existing, right? It's certainly an interesting suggestion, I'd have no objections to running it if it's popular.

Last fortnight there were three challenge suggestions that were popular but weren't chosen; "In the Wake of Giants", "They Came from Earth-2", and "The True Believers". Kaiphranos already reposted "In the Wake of Giants", so I'll repost the other two here:

Quote:
They Came from Earth-2

Make a map showing a world which has been invaded/colonized/contacted by a parallel Earth.
Quote:
The True Believers

Make a map showing a world where a religion that became a major religion in OTL remains or becomes minor and restricted to a small area
ASB and future maps would obviously be allowed for "They Came from Earth-2", but I'm not sure whether future maps should be allowed for "The True Believers" - it might be interesting to see a future map where irreligion overtakes an established religion. What do you guys think?

Here's a new idea.

Divided by the Divides

Show the world or a region in the world where most or all of the international borders are based on continental divides.

I don't see how that would be interesting. It'd be hard to do in terms of a plausible timeline, and the entries would all come out looking very similar, as they must all have similar borders.

Yeah, I guess. Challenges just aren't my thing, apparently.

Here's an idea:

The Wild, Wild...

Show a 'frontier' region, where the authority of an organized state is thin and settlement is pretty much going willy-nilly.

Can include future history, for example a newly settled planet, or fantasy (the Morder frontier?).

I approve - especially on allowing future and fantasy maps!

A frontier in space - whether it be of a planet; an asteroid belt; or free-floating, artificial space habitats - would be acceptable.

Well it looks like "The Wild, Wild..." is just as popular as many of the suggestions from last week were. The question is, which challenge would you guys like to see first?

Could you kindly list the most popular suggestions from the past week? It'll make deciding much easier.

Well, the popular suggestions from last fortnight were "The True Believers", "They Came from Earth-2", and "In the Wake of Giants". I think I posted some of the full descriptions further up the page, but I'll repost them now:

Quote:
The True Believers

Make a map showing a world where a religion that became a major religion in OTL remains or becomes minor and restricted to a small area
Quote:
They Came from Earth-2

Make a map showing a world which has been invaded/colonized/contacted by a parallel Earth.
Quote:
In the Wake of Giants

Evolution of...

A map and/or diagram that shows how a state came to be how it is today, something like this one of Malaysia. Fairly open-ended, but could still work.

Sorry for posting a whole map/diagram here, but I couldn't think of a way to explain it in under a thousand words, so according to the standard exchange rate, the picture is more efficient.
