Yay! Hopefully I will be able to enter this contest, but one cannot be sure.

Excellent! I'm glad, I thought this was a really cool idea--although I hope the next MoF can be the linguistic map, since that sounded cool too.

the revanchist MC sounds good, but I support my language one.

My interpretation of the "Natio Vetus, Gloria Nova" challenge was that the nation is claiming to be a spiritual revival of a long dead empire; not that it's claiming to be that empire and has a right to its land, so I don't know how revanchism comes into it... though Xwarq did suggest the name "Revanche Supreme" for it.

Can the map show more than one 'revanchist' country?

Well that's sort of the reason most states would claim to be an old empire. For example, Mussolini wanting/promising to the people a new Roman Empire. He did not say so because Italy had already become the Roman Empire, but because he planned to conquer its former lands. Or, well, some of them.

Since when is implausibility not allowed? His map isn't an impossible or ASB scenario. This decision seems like a bit too much interference.

Could it be an organization of nations collectively claiming that they are the successor to an empire?

I consider ASB to be synonymous with implausibility, and I consider Jman's map to be ASB, unless he can explain how North Korea can hope to win a war against South Korea in the next couple of decades, or how a coalition of nationalist and fascists will suddenly decide to embrace multiculturalism and unite as a relatively centralised sovereign state and willingly be lumped together into vast, arbitrary provinces.

Yes, definitely.

True, but claiming to be the successor to an empire may be more of a metaphor or analogy than a direct claim of territory. Russia was claimed to be a "Third Rome" by Orthodox Christians as it was the last remaining Orthodox Empire after the fall of Constantinople (the Second Rome). Claiming to be a successor of the Roman Empire can merely mean that your country considers itself to be the cultural centre of Christendom, or that your country considers itself to be the defender of the Christian faith.

Yes, provided it's plausible.

Can this be of a military campaign (or several of them) to retake the revanchist claims?

Bah! Two maps up already of the Greece/Asia Minor area, and neither of them show a new Byzantium!

The Koreas reunified peacefully in that scenario.

The internal divisions of the Eurasians Union are pretty lazy, I agree. I still don't think it was bad enough to warrant being skipped from the competition.

Doesn't the Megali Idea claim to be a resurrection of Byzantium?

Ah, bugger. My mind apparently blocked out the word "peacefully" and assumed North Korea had invaded and annexed South Korea. Mea culpa.

The fact that the Eurasian Union exists at all is ridiculous. The nations involved were all run by nationalists and fascists - groups that quite specifically do NOT want any other state having any say in how they run things and quite specifically do NOT want to give up their national sovereignty to anyone - making the fact that they decided to unify into a seemingly very centralised federation where they are grouped together willy-nilly totally implausible.

Unless Jman can explain it in a manner that makes it plausible, the map will not be considered for voting.

In the latest challenge, can regional or continental maps be shown as long as the state to be emphasized is indicated?

Provided that the state in question is shown then yes.

Yeah, not exactly a good showing. I'm loathe to extend the contest again, as last time I did that we didn't actually get any more entries.

Hopefully there will be a few late entries before this contest round closes.
