Well, I would remind you of MotFs 1 and 43, though arguably the latter was a widening of the former.
And I do need to update that wiki list, it's 16 MotF's behind...
EDIT: Done so, but only the topics that were chosen, not the ones from this thread.
Whilst I'm there, I always liked Look Upon My Works, Ye Mighty, And Despair, The Untied States of America, Manifest Destiny (though I think I came up with that one) or The Not-so-Civil War. Plus I am planning to enter MotF 62, so my opinions might matter again!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that!

I've been considering updating that page so that all of the used suggestions and their MotF rounds are listed at the top of the page, with all the unused ones listed below in categories. If you get 'round to updating it before me feel free to just add the newer challenge suggestions and I'll organise it by whether they've been used or not.

All very good challenge suggestions, and I'm not just saying that because two of them were mine!

I'm planning on entering too - ought to be a good round with us two in it!

How about this?

What's the Difference?: Make a map of a nation or world in which the PoD is at least 1000 years prior to the map.

That sounds a lot like "A Looong Timeline A-Winding" or whatever it was called. It's not on the Wiki page because it wasn't very popular, and because it's a terrible idea that forces people to make up long, detailed, and realistic timelines rather than actually focussing on the map itself - essentially undermining the idea of having a *map* contest.

Coming up with an entirely original and good challenge idea is somewhat hard at this point, hence why I'm willing to rerun old challenges if people want to.

Alright. So... It seems like Those Strange Tongues seems to be the most popular.

At the moment yes, but there's still a week left in the current challenge!

Well, I've started mine, so perhaps I'll have a map done on time for a change.

I have started working on a map for this interesting challenge, but I've run into a problem; I've filled my map's background with so much detail that I feel like I can't just post a single "Cold War" map with one side in (shades of) one colour and the other side in the other, as, while it would show which area belongs to which side, it wouldn't show the nation-state it's meant to be part of, and I put quite some work in that aspect, too. On the other hand, just posting a map of the world including national colours wouldn't make it obvious at first glance which country belongs to which bloc, and even if I added a key it would mean a lot of search-work. So I was wondering what everyone's ideas on this problem are. Perhaps I should make an outline in the bloc's colour around the individual nations, and besides that leave them in their national colour? Or should I just post two maps?

I think I get what you mean. I've got the same thing, I'm just having all the allied nations in different shades of the same colour. Bruce uses it in several of his maps.

Also, and I only realised this just now as I was searching for an example for the above, this contest idea was run before (sort of, heck of a lot of restrictions there). In August 2008...

You should be able to put visibile borders between different countries, even if they are the same or similar colours. If you want to specifically state the name of the different countries you could use a key for the different colour shades, or put numbers on the different countries and name them in the key.

Putting a coloured border around all the countries in a power bloc might be easier, though.

Oh wow, that was well before the MotF contest even existed! It's nice to look back once in a while and see how far we've come - especially in terms of... quality.

Question: Is it limited to a Two-way Cold War, or can have it have 3-4 sides?

Provided you can do a three- or four-sided cold war plausibly, it is permitted.

Alrighty then; I was worried I'd have to simplify my idea.

I'm not sure if I ever announced it in this thread but the Map Duel between Kaiphranos and Iserlohn to resolve MotF 56: The True Believers, specifically the Map Duel for Honour and Glory II: Electric Boogaloo, is currently underway. "The Gun is Our Government" was chosen as the contestants' challenge. Once both their entries are received I shall post a thread for the Map Duel and post a link to it in here!

Currently, however, we're in need of a challenge for MotF 63! Here are a few popular suggestions that have been brought recently that I like - feel free to suggest your own or resuggest old suggestions if you want to!

Quote:
Air, Water, Earth, Fire

Make a map showing the effects of a major natural disaster that did not happen in OTL.
Quote:
The Miracle

Make a map showing a country that achieved an "economic miracle" - like Germany or Japan post-WWII - that did not in OTL, or in a manner different to how it did in OTL.
Quote:
The Locked Country

Make a map showing a country which has cut itself off from the rest of the world, similar to feudal Japan under the doctrine of Sakoku, or North Korea in more recent times. The map may be from the perspective of outside observers - showing what they know about the country or speculating as to its internal structure - or it may be a map of the country from its own perspective, or it may be a mix.
Quote:
The People's Choice

Make a map showing the results of an election that is considered highly controversial or outright rigged.

Alright...

Those Strange Tongues

Make a map showing the linguistic geography of a region that is dominated by a language or language family which did not exist in OTL, or which did not dominate that region in OTL.

I vote for Air, Water, Earth, Fire (though personally I'd prefer the order Earth, Fire, Water, Air - the order the Orbs/Crystals are restored in Final Fantasy I - but I understand we have more Avatar fans here than FF fans, despite the fact that the latter has a tradition of airships, so I digress).

I think I'm going with The Miracle.

Airships?

I think Avatar might have a few... they're all actually *airships* too, instead of sailing ships with huge propellers and/or wings!
