I guess it would have to be defined as a natural hazard that resulted in a significant loss of human life?

I reckon The Locked Country would be good.
Edited: Sorry, bolded now.

As a general rule, I'd prefer it if you emboldened the name of any challenge suggestions - especially ones you're expressing support for. It makes it a lot easier to pick them out when I need to tally the support each suggestion has.

Yeah, I'd presume so. Volcanoes, earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, etc. Either show the effects of an allohistorical one, (Madrid fault lets go in a year of your choice) or a historical one in an allohistorical context. (1906 San Francisco earthquake in an independent California)

Again, I'd like to express my support for The Indomitables.

Alright. I can see that the Indomitables are more popular. I'll suggest my challenge in a fortnight, but if it is not popular, then I'll end it there.

Looks like I won't make it for this contest: sorry. I did start on one, and after a couple hours work - saved it in the wrong format, so I have to restart from scratch. Argh. It's just very discouraging: perhaps i'll redo it at some point as a world map.

Always a shame when something like that happens.

I have an idea for a future contest:

L'Etat C'est Moi.

The challenge is to do a map reflecting the world, or a particular part of it, following the successes of a monarch who was unsuccessful in our timeline.

That is a specific version of In the Footsteps of Illustrious Men, you know that?

Not really--yours has that "ten years" thing going, and this one is specifically about making unsuccessful monarch of OTL successful. In any case, there are lots of potential challenges that could be seen as subsets of yours--in fact, almost any map could be showing the world ten or more years after someone world-changing died, since people tend to die every year...

Anyway, my picks for this round: The Indomitables, Air, Water, Earth, Fire (If that's the order Krall prefers. ) or L'Etat C'est Moi.

Those actually match my preferences, so I vote for them as well.

The ten years idea was the most iffy part of the challenge.

And a focus on Monarchs? That seriously restricts it. And it do not allow for ATL Monarchs.

Here is an augmented version of mine.

In the Footsteps of Illustrious Men
Show the world, or a part of the world, at the death of a world-changing leader (monarch, president, whatever). The change he/she brought can be good, or bad, but the leader's aims must be successful. ATL leaders are encouraged, but OTL leaders can be used, as long as the outcome is ATL. ASB is a no-no, but FH is OK.

See, I tend to be of the opinion that some restrictions are a good thing. If we didn't have restrictions, then the challenge every week would be "Make a map," and I bet the contest would have died after a few rounds.

Besides, "L'Etat C'est Moi" doesn't say that the map has to be after the monarch's death--you could show the successes of someone like Napoleon (if he were a monarch) who was successful for many years but whose empire had been taken apart by the time of his death.

And who needs ATL monarchs, anyway? There are scads of OTL monarchs to choose from. Save the ATL monarchs for a later round.

I agree with The Indomitables, Air, Water, Earth, Fire, and L'État C'est Moi (while we're fixing names like the element order, let's keep the diacritics, too, it's one of my infinitely many pet peeves).
