1790 : La pérousse's ship "La Boussole" came back to France after five years of travels around the world. Two years earlier, unlike OTL, only two of his ships, "l'Astrolabe" and "de Langle" were lost in the Solomon Islands.
Upon his arrival in Breat, he was welcomed gloriously and word of the expedition's travels in the pacific islands, Australia, Brasil and Japan echoed among the population.
Rapidly understanding the new political situation in France, La pérousse skillfully used his rising fame among seamen and interested investors to make him unavoidable for the newcoming political powers. Hence the well know citation "La république a besoin de marins" ("The Republic need sailors")
He thus established the "Compagnie des Indes Australes" in Brest. That same year he chose for his blue-ocean flag the compass emblem in reference to the only surviving ship of the expedition "La Boussole".
The company easily gained investors and was pretty prosperous in the first years, but suffered heavily from the Terreur, which made its founder eventually flee France, before the final Napoleonian integration within the Empire.
