Burma flag's to be changed with the next elections.

2 months left before the Burmese general elections, in accordance with the new constitution which was approved in a referendum held in May 2008, as a step toward democraty.

The old flag will then be remplaced by a new one.

I understand the need of the population who don't want to use the same flag which was used by "socialist" dictatorship, but this look like a downgrade for me.
The color remind me of african country's flags, and Burma sure don't have many links with Africa.

I'm pretty sure a better flag could have be made here.

Well, their current flag is a blatant ripoff of the ROC's flag.

I believe the new flag was based off, oddly enough, Burma's flag when it was a Japanese puppet state in WW2.

Yes I know for the japanese puppet flag history, it clearly show how poorly the seach for this flag has been led.

I agree the old flag have to be changed, but hell this is a huge disapointment. :mad:

Both flags are obviously crappy. Who the hell uses stars anymore? It's so common nowadays. Why can't anyone use the British flag as their canton?

Well, Burma and the UK don't share very close ties...

I've tried to improve it without straying too far from what the Government intends for it to be...

So a quite original, eyechatching and easily identifiable flag is to be replaced with a generic flag on an overused format that will be easy to mistake for somone else and has historially offensive implications?

Well the regime seem to have gone nuts.

The white star on yellow just doesn't work, and we really didn't need another generic African-looking tricolour. I like JJDXB's version.

Reminds me more of a communist Bolivia. Red-green-yellow is a very ugly colour combination, especially on flags.

the new flag is a sad rip off of ever left wing Guerrilla group in Latin America and Africa, the ROC's flag is a cool and underused base

if they're going to change it go with this

I think the lack of peacock symbolism is because Aung San Suu Kyi's movement uses it on their flag.

No offense to your flag design or anything, I think it's great. I just think it's funny that some random person who read about this on a forum went in his free time and designed a better flag than, presumably, the government board in Burma that designed the real flag. Haha. :D
