Second American Civil War

Hey guys, so the idea behind this thread would be taken from the TV series, Jericho. Which was on CBS from 2006-2008. Essentially, 23 nuclear bombs are detonated in large cities across the country, including Washington D.C.

After 6 months, and many political deals having been made, there are two major political bodies left. East of the Mississippi River, lies the remains of the old federal government, centered around Columbus, Ohio. West of the Mississippi, excluding Texas which is waiting out to see who comes out on top, lies the Allied States of America centered around Cheyenne, Wyoming.

It has been assumed that the states of Alaska and Hawaii have formed independent countries, as both of them have their own movements of independence in real life.

The main political differences between the two America's, is the fact that the ASA is much more corporate America than the remains of the old government in the USA.

Is anyone interested?

Highly unlikely.

I'm sure that it would be, as was the Civil War to some extent, liberal vs. conservative.

Texas joined the USA against ASA at the end of the series though.

Yes, but I believe it was still independent.

KahukuMan forgot to mention that in the show that an evil generic military-industrial conspiracy detonated like thirty-some nuclear devices in major American cities, except New York for some reason, and then they blamed Iran and North Korea.

At one point in the series there were 6 successors to the Federal government.

Man I loved that show.

I can't believe the Sci Fi channel or someone else didn't pick up and run with the 2nd Civil War thing going on.

My predicted outcome: Texas, convniced of the culpability of the Halliburton-clone and ASA government in the nuclear attacks, sides with the reconstituted Federal Government. Border states like Louisiana fold quickly into the Federal camp.

UN peacekeepers, however, are still deployed along "the Blue line", so much of the fighting is skirmish-level and commando operations aimed at psychological and propaganda victories. Of course we all want the ASA to be vanquished as the evil corporate whores they are, but wouldn't it be interesting if they win?

You know theres a comic book that details the third season.

Anyways to explain 23 American cities are wiped off the map. NYC and Columbus (ironicly the new capital of the USA) are spared. Police find and capture the NYC bomb in the nick of time while Robert Hawkins was suppose to deliever the Columbus bomb.

Jericho was picked because its out of all the fallout zones.

Anyways the ASA is formed by the people who headed the conspiracy and secure all the states west of the Mississipi -Texas.
They blame Iran and NK they launch nukes byby 2 biggest ahole countries in the world.
Hawkins with the last bomb is able to transport it to Texas to have them swing their power behind Columbus (USA)
But they needed some help from Texas ANG first resulting in one of the most awsome scenes in tv history.

The Allied States was clearly a neo-fascist state. A convention to discuss the ASA constiution was to get rid of the second ammendement, and was also re-writting the history of the "old USA" saying it failed because it didn't use nuclear weapons against Cuba or in Vitnam.
The end of the series sees Texas join the USA, against the ASA.
The leader of the ASA is John Tamachiro.

Nice to see people know what's up. It's good to see that the show did have an audience. lol.

The ASA was very neo-fascist. If I'm not mistaken, in the first comic, the ASA is planning on storming across the Mississippi as soon as the UN forces move out. However the USA is still reeling from the effects of the Hudson River Virus. A virus started by the nuclear fallout from somewhere. Not really sure why it's called the Hudson River Virus if NYC wasn't destroyed. Oh well.

So I propose that we start off with Jake and Hawkins successfully in Texas returning to join the US army, and begin with the storming of the Mississippi by the AS forces.

Ok, a comic is nice, but its not going to cover lots of topics that would come up in a world like this. World trade just took a nose dive after the event so your going to see a recession probably in the EU, countries demanding safe passage of surviving tourists, normalization of trade.....what else? Whose going to recognize the ASA? Clean up of the environment? etc....

Economic recession?

More like near-total collapse. Everywhere.

That's a good point, The Doctor.

I think that the EU and most European states would align with the old federal government, as it has longer connections with it.

While I think China and Russia would likely support the ASA as it is more like-minded to their respective forms of government. Technically "free-elections" but still controlled by a majority. We can assume this about the ASA as Jennings and Rall (said evil corporation) and corporations never give up power, just look at the modern day USA! :P

That leaves countries such as India, Brazil, and Mexico as the other major players in the world.

Any other thoughts?

How are the people going to react. I mean did Hollywood survive? If so and other places in California, are they going to be conservative or reactionary. Who do they allign with, the ASA or the USA?

Now a major world wide reccession has begun with the loss of the United States and cooporations like Walmart which are big importer of Chinese goods, so what now there?

Europe: How does the EU react and cleanup the nuclear fallout? The economic slump, how do they try and fix their own economies? Get their tourists back?

Middle East: How do our troops react there? Who takes command?

What's the world reaction to the nuking of Iran and North Korea? I'm just assuming here, but since they used ICBMs, I'm thinking there's megatons of Iranians and Koreans floating around in the upper atmosphere now.

On the international stage, is the ASA a pariah state or is it one that 'no one wants to fuck with right now'? How are South Korea and Japan dealing with the fallout? Is there a world-wide declaration of Jihad against the infidel Americans or are "Islamofascists" treading very quietly for the moment? Is Great Britain making a play to become the lead Western power again, relying on it's strength of the Commonwealth? Will the EU formulate a real constitution? Does Russia say 'screw it' and take back it's breakaway provinces?

I think the world view of the ASA nuking Iran and NK is that "Well NK and Iran did work together to wipe out 23 American cities and kill millions of Americans. So its just MAD."
Also if you remember China (and Germany) were doing overflights of America and were dropping food and gernerators stuff like that.
God thats why that show was so awsome you never knew what the **** was going on. And you had to piece together the clues from the clips that you saw and from what you heard. Even in season two you still didnt know everything that was going on.

Also though my biggest gripe with the series was that the nuke effects weren't very realistic. I cant remember exactly but there was a large Jericho fansite disscousion on the nuke effects and the blast was from 10-20 kt I believe. (Smaller or as big as Hiroshima I believe.) And if you bunch that into this website http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/gmap/...71%2C+40.00000# putting a 15kt nuke on Capitol Hill doesnt take out more that say one fifth to one fourth of DC. Now while I think the president was in the Capaital building along with the House and Senate you would have to get cclose to the building for it to be destroyed. And I have a feeling the capital builing is stronger than it looks.
