WI Hoover doesn't force Purvis out of the FBI?
According to many sources, Hoover's jealousy of Melvin Purvis' popularity led to a petty little struggle that ended with Purvis leaving the Bureau after a demotion.
If Hoover had swallowed his pride, might we eventually see Director Purvis?

Hoover swallowing his pride? You might as well ask Glenn Beck to become a Nancy Pelosi fan.

Good point. Maybe a third party could pressure him to let up?

J. Edgar Hoover could not swallow his own pride, but he frequently swallowed Clyde Tolson's. Maybe this could turn into a Hoover-Tolson wank, though it might get a little sticky.

PK: Grab the FORKS NOW.
TV: No one could control Hoover. Even when RFK, who was hardly known as being a weak-willed or timid man, was AG, he could not bring Hoover under anything approaching proper control. Hoover is technically a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in civil service ranking, one of many. In practice, he was the AG's equal, if not his superior on some occasions.
