What if the prequel trilogy was made immediately after the original trilogy?

Er...Lucas was quite exhausted from the process of making the OTs, and was more concerned with moving onto other projects and his personal life. I don't see a reason why he would, considering the special effects needed for his idea of the prequels didn't quite exist yet or weren't perfected.
