AH Challenge: Empire of Virginia

With a Point of Divergence no earlier than 1 January 1760, and no later than the OTL signing of the Treaty of Paris on 3 September 1783, create a plausible nation in North America named the Empire of Virginia, which effectively replaces the USA, has at least as much land area, and still holds the Emperor of Virginia as Head of State, and possibly Head of Government, in 2009.

What effect would this rather different nation have on such events as the French Revolution, or the War of 1812, I wonder?
