Yeah, that too. I am heraldically influenced in my flag design, and Sudan is the exception to the rule in more than one way. I did darken the yellow more than I usually do. Maybe a little more toward mustard might be better (and for the Americans on the board, I mean Gulden's, not French's--LOL).

Complex and fussy designs appear to be very popular on this site. Yet, leaving aside the armorial offerings, most flags in OTL appear to be relatively simple.

Does this say something about the contributing AH vexicologists?

Ooh, a critique ? Yeah, we're all rather pretentious.

I don't know about any vexicologists, but the AH vexillologists tend to follow the same rules as flag-designers anywhere. Most of the flags on show here are not national flags, but specialist flags of some kind or flags designed to represent a specific political, cultural or ethnic construct, both situations where a complex design is usually called for. Given your obviously vast expertise in the area, I'm sure you'd win any of the contests that we have here.

Well, I want to congratulate you for winning Round 75, xt828.

I'm already interested in what you'll come up with for the next round.

Oh, and I'd also like to thank the person who voted for my flag set. I appreciate it.

You didn't vote for your own set?

I really liked Iserlohn's and Marc Pasquin's designs, too.

How long do I have before I have to post the contest?

I'll wait until viperhawkz posts the win in the winners and challenges thread to put the new challenge up. I couldn't think of anything exciting so its fairly bleh.

No restrictions on the where, when or TL of the nation in question. I'd probably go with a bit of an explanation of the background.

A flag set based upon my Danke Schön, Freiherr von der Goltz timeline.

The first flag is the OTL flag of Liberia, and was used ITTL until early 1991. The second, transitional flag is the flag of a coalition of Socialist and anti-Americo-Liberian groups and was briefly used as the national flag after the capture of most of Monrovia by revolutionary troops, who had already achieved victory in the hinterland. This use was over a period of approximately four weeks, during which there was a standoff between loyalist troops under President Bartholomew Tolbert and the forces of the Revolutionary Council, under the leadership of Theodore Kwiwonkpa.

At Kwiwonkpa's direction, a flag was created in secret, reproduced, and carried into battle by revolutionary troops newly supplied with uniforms, vehicles and weapons by the People's Republic of Columbia. Hungry and running out of ammunition, a rumor quickly spread among loyalist forces that these well-equipped soldiers with an unknown flag on their uniforms and vehicles were newly arrived foreign mercenaries. The loyalists panicked, deserting their positions. The Executive Mansion fell within an hour, and the last resistance ended within a day. The Revolutionary Council confirmed the adoption of the tricolor as the new national flag of the Socialist Republic of Liberia a week after the cessation of hostilities.

I have no 'vast expertise' in the matter, nor have I claimed to have such; I was merely making an observation.

Nevertheless, I find your above remark quite intereting.

Knock it off with the passive-aggressive baiting.

Thank you. I think they're good too. But every time I think I have a shot at winning one of these damn contests, someone shows up with a masterpiece that blows my stuff out of the water.

Well, I, for one, am not even trying. I kind of like being like one of those small countries that only win a medal once in a million years, yet still try their chances at the Olympics.

On the bright side, that kind of patience does pay off at times. Just look at the recent success of that athlete from Grenada.
