Stalin isn't a saint. Yes, there was a recent petition by Russian communists (IIRC) for the Orthodox Church to canonize him but it has not been done AFAIK.

In exchange for military aid to the Muslim king of Valencia, the small Taifa of Albarracin was pawned to a lesser Navarrese noble house in 1167 that continued to rule it as an independent Christian state for the next 120 years, the Lordship of Albarracin. It was finally annexed by Aragon in 1284 when the local lord sided with the French and Navarrese during the Aragonese Crusade.

The Antonov An-2 has acquired a whole slew of versions and specialized variants over the decades. Including this fairly rare one :

"Oh, a monoplane version ?", you ask. Nope. That's a freaking ekranoplan variant of the plane !!!

Well, I'm not going to be the only one who looked up ekranoplan I can imagine. A link to the wiki would be useful.
Still, I'm glad I looked it up - a very interesting system I had no idea about.
I also had to look up the plane itself, to confirm it was a biplane as was assumed from your rhetorical question (that I would never have asked). Honestly most people just don't know that much about aircraft...

kinda like to imagine this as part of the future world of scott westerfields Leviathan series (aint read the last two books yet, but sorta day dremed they managed to keep the clanker ottoman empire out of the war and eventually made it more darwinist)

Really ? Ekranoplans are mentioned quite often on the board. I'm surprised you haven't stumbled upon a post featuring them until now.

The first place I ever heard of them was on the Ill Bethisad wiki a year or so ago.

Socialist anti-Europeean Royalists?

France has some interesting parties, like the Nouvelle Action Royaliste...Their main goal is a constitutional monarchy, but they have some wide-ranging political views.

In 1991, aliens from space landed in New Zealand. Their stated purpose was to improve the health of the children living there. As a result, the grateful New Zealanders named the hospital after the type of vehicle that the aliens came in.

What if, in the present day, the Dutch East Indies were still in place along with other European imperial powers? This is what a fashion magazine might look like.

(in reality, it's just a photo shoot in Indonesia, but still!)

It's a shame Consumer Reports doesn't have their "back page" article online. I found a nice picture they reprinted in which it quoted Thomas Jefferson on how "It took me 1000 ways to learn how not to make a light bulb."
They also posted a car ad for a "2007 Chevy Mustang". I was able to find that someone had a different 2007 Chevy Mustang...

The bolded sentence form Wikipedia article on History of Zionism:

Quote:
In 1516 the state of Venice decreed that Jews would only be allowed to reside in a walled area adjacent to Venice called the Ghetto. Ghetto residents had to pay a daily poll tax and could only stay a limited amount of time. In 1555 the Pope decreed that Jews in Rome were to face similar restrictions. The requirement for Jews to live in Ghettos spread across Europe and Ghettos were frequently highly overcrowded and heavily taxed. They also provided a convenient target for mobs (pogrom). Jews were expelled from England in 1290. A ban remained in force that was only lifted when Oliver Cromwell overthrew the Catholic monarchy in 1649 (see Resettlement of the Jews in England).

Persecution of Jews began to decline following Napoleon's conquest of Europe after the French Revolution although the short lived Nazi Empire resurrected most practices. In 1965 the Catholic Church formally ended the doctrine of holding Jews collectively responsible for the death of Jesus.
When I read that sentence I got the impression that a "Nazi Empire" somehow arose but quickly crumbled in 19th century of a "Napoleonic victory TL".

The part I find odd is that it took the Vatican until 1965 to stop holding the Jews responsible for the death of Jesus.
