to avoid confusion...is it possible to change our color scheme to what it is today? I don't know if we did this already and I know that 2010 was Dem(red) GOP(blue) just to help with continuity.

BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS BREAKING NEWS

Michigan Recall Election Results Confirmed: Sacho Chosen as New Governor; Goodall, 5 Republicans Ejected from State Legislature.

Michigan has confirmed the results of the recall election, as Governor John Brennan has been removed from office, and Senator Paula Sacho has been elected. State Senate President Pro Tempore Karleen Goodall and 5 other Republicans have also been removed.

The results from the election were held up due to recount requests from both the Brennan and Sacho campaigns, Brennan in regards to possible voter fraud, and Sacho due to concerns of undercounting from Wayne and Washtenaw Counties. After a week-long count, Sacho was confirmed the winner by 52.7%, with Republican candidates Brennan and Secretary of State Charlie Blanton receiving 2.5 and 44.8% respectively.

Brennan was recalled by voters due to major dissatisfaction over his attempt to limit the bargaining rights of major union members, most specifically teachers and public sector workers. While many believed that Brennan could have survived a recall, when major allegations of corruption emerged connecting Brennan to the Android Defense Corporation, and Penetrobe Engineering, another major defense contractor, public backlash was immediate. Backlash also emerged in the regards of the state legislators who had sponsored the collective bargaining legislations, all Republicans. Of the so-called Michigan Ten, 6 Senators and 4 Representatives, 6 were recalled, including the President Pro Tem of the Michigan State Senate, Karleen Goodall, whose tactics had bypassed Democratic objections, and the House co-sponsor, Jack Gregg. The other 2 Senators and Representatives retained their seats. This reduces the Republican majority in the State Senate, but the GOP still retains control.

Sacho ran on a platform of "restoring responsibility to Michigan," stating that she would offer up a comprehensive statewide ethics bill that would be "the strictest in the nation," as well as promising "to defend the rights of working Michiganders." Sacho also touted her pro-fair trade and environmental credentials.

There has been no statement thus far from any of the campaigns.

US Justice Department, US Attorney's Office, Michigan Attorney General Both Announce Inquiries into Android Defense Corporation, Penetrobe Engineering.

Three separate government agencies announced that they would be conducting investigations into a pair of Michigan defense contractors accused of corruption.

The Michigan Attorney General's office has had an investigation going into Penetrobe since the emergence of the Roger Baker scandal, and has announced that they will be expanding into Android. A statement from their office read that "As a Michigan corporation, the Attorney General has a fiduciary responsibility to look into the business practices of Android, especially in relation to the actions and subsequent recall election of Governor John Brennan. The Attorney General will be issuing subpoenas to question executives of both companies in this new avenue."

Perhaps surprisingly, both the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan and the Justice Department itself have announced their own, separate investigations.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan released a statement saying that "Both Penetrobe Engineering and Android Defense Corporation have become objects of interest, and in order to protect the public and ensure that no further corruption has been perpetrated, the U.S. Attorney will be looking into both of the companies with those angles in mind."

Finally, Attorney General Ellen Luevano announced that the Justice Department would be investigating in "the interests of national security and public corruption. Former FBI Director Tom Connolly, who is familiar with the situation and is also a Michigan native, will serve as Special Prosecutor, and will be authorized to carry out any and all directives as necessary."

The two companies have been under fire recently, and this continuing sign of federal interest is sure to fan the flames.

Polls will trouble Andrew Thorn

Andrew Thorn, the Democratic "golden boy" the man once destined to run for President and head of Democratic efforts to win back the Senate this year, looks to be for the first time to be in serious trouble.

Two polls out in the last few days, show he is losing support in his bid to be re-elected to the US Senate , let alone make a serious bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination in two years time.

His standing in the likely Democratic nominees in two years time is droping, it now stands at 14%, and for re-election, Rob Cole a almost unknown in the state only trails by 18%, and the former Governor Jack Stephens by 15%. Stephens many believe could actually defeat Thorn in the fall or least give Thorn such a tough fight that it will force him to think twice about a Presidential run in 2014.

Whataever most observers believe that Thorn has handled the FBI investigation into Thorn PLC and Emerlad badly, now we await the next act.

Prior Facing Serious Challenge As Stiles Surge Appears To Stick

In a hugely unexpected development Governor Phil Prior is facing a significant threat to a second term some eight months before a general election.

Having led Dalton Stiles, the US Attorney who served in the State Department under Owen Lassiter, by some distance for months Prior has seen his challenger emerge from nowhere with first the endorsement of the Club for Growth and then last weeks backing by Reverend Ethan Butler and his father Don.

The latter endorsement seems to have hit the spot for Styles who suddenly seems to have caught fire with the conservative base – a part of the party Prior has never been too popular with. A poll over the weekend suggested that Styles had closed to within 3 points of Governor Prior ahead of tomorrow’s primary.

All of this has a number of analysts discussing the possibility of an incredible upset.

Styles, 46, held a junior position in the Lassiter administration until 1998 before returning to Texas where he previously served in the State Senate. He has campaigned relentlessly on the need to control state spending and has hit Prior as constantly for what he described as a “constantly moving commitment to small government”.

The Prior camp appeared to be seriously spooked, changing their message from their consistent push on how Prior’s efforts over the past two years have balanced the budget and put the state on the path to prosperity to focusing on the fact that Styles can’t beat presumptive Democratic nominee John Hoynes.

O’Hare leads Wyatt As GOP Eye Maryland Pick Up

To the surprise of everyone bar his closest friends Annapolis Mayor Charlie O’Hare has established a small but significant lead in the race to replace Senator Sam Whiteside.

The seat looked to be a Democratic lock until the party lined up behind former Congresswoman Andi Wyatt, the divisive former wife of Toby Ziegler who lost a previous bid for the Senate in 2010.

Not only did Wyatt immediately make the race competitive, she also divided the state party by turning her back on State Senator Sean Henley who she had previously endorsed.

Wyatt, who famously exploded on Meet The Press after being continuously pressed to answer questions about her former husband, hasn’t been able to get her campaign up and running after her initial campaign manager resigned in protest at her backing out of the Henley endorsement. That was followed by the release of a paper she had written during her sabbatical from politics entitled “Taxing The Rich; A Way to Fairer America” that led to a row over whether she was proposing a top rate of tax of 75%.

Sources close to the Whiteside family are said to extremely worried at the possibility of the loss of the seat and are said to be urging either Governor Joe Derrick or former Attorney General Claire Volland to get into the race.

Governors of New Jersey

LIST

Thomas Kean (1982-1986)

Joseph Lazzieri (1986-1990)

At the time Joseph Lazzieri was a very effective governor, although in the aftermath of the bribery scandal many wonder how much of this was actual skill or a web of bribery and machine politics. He lost narrowly to Basler but was quite eager to move on from the governor's mansion to the U.S. Senate, and we all know how that turned out

Kevin Basler (1990-1991)

One of the Representatives for the state of New Jersey in Congress, Basler was from the Scott school of Republican ideology. For many it wasn't a question of if he would be big one day but when. He had a good working relationship with Governor Jack Stephens and Basler was seen as perhaps bringing in a new renaissance for New England Republicans. However his life was cut short when on October 4, 1991, as he was driving to the State Capital Building, his car was hit by a drunk driver going almost 70 mph on a 30 mph road. Basler was rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn't save him. He died later that day.

Gregory J. Reynholm (1991-1994)

After the death of Basler in that car crash it left New Jersey in a constitutional crisis. There was no mechanism in the state constitution for replacing a governor unable to perform the duties of office. The Republicans controlled both houses of legislature, and forced through a change that the New Jersey Senate President would serve as Acting Governor, and the position of Lieutenant Governor was created for subsequent office holders. Reynholm was in the twilight of his career and served the position of Acting Governor mostly as a placeholder. At Princeton the Political Science department analyzes how the 2 house system operated for three years without an executive branch of the state government

Catherine "Kate" Crossley (1994-2002)

Served with distinction in the Judge Advocate General's Office in the navy, she was discharged as part of budget cuts after the cold war ended. Crossley rose quickly upon he election as Mayor of Atlantic City as a virtual unknown. Her tenure as mayor saw a reduction of crime. With the 1994 Governor race wide open on both sides of the aisle, Crossley faced a tough uphill battle to get the Democratic Nomination, beating John Pickford, Bill Kirk, Jon Bowman, and Brooke Avery. Once reaching the governor's mansion, she was able to galvanize the democratic base and able to power through despite a Republican Senate. Her second term she campaigned hard to support the Democratic legislature, and was able to swing it to Democrats for both houses of the State Legislature towards the Democrats. In 2002 she was term limited, and announced that she was leaving politics to raise her child (she was in her third month of pregnancy when she left office), In 2006 she became the host of CrossCountry on NBS, as a liberal talk show host. In recent months she has been making waves about a possible 2014 run. Rumors flying that Crossley was close to declaring bankruptcy in 2005, unsubstantiated though

Jonathan Fowler (2002-2006)

The current patriarch of the Fowler Political dynasty. The Fowlers have a family legacy stretching back all the way to the 18th century when Nathan Fowler fought in the Revolutionary War. Against the Patriots actually but by 1810, Nathan Fowler's son was a successful lawyer. Throughout the 19th and 20th century the Fowlers were judges lawyers and respected professors. Beyond one Attorney General in the Coolidge Administration, Johnathan Fowler was the first Fowler to seek a solely political postion. After a stint in the state legislature he was able to beat Meredith Carter in the election after the Crossley years. His tenure as governor was marked by several budget battles, that he emerged victorious from despite a democratic legislature. He also appointed Mike Brace as the replacement for Lazzieri for senate. In 2006 he was a frontrunner until Arnold Vinick entered the race. As his staff had focused on the presidental race, he had a hard time transitioning to the governors race again.

John Treyman (2006-2010)

A political unknown walked into office following Fowler's campaign disaster. John Treyman was an odd Democrat to say the least, his stance on abortion (a pro-life Democrat) cost him many supporters in the Democrats, and the only reason he won was because Fowler ran for President in 2006 and not for governor. By the time Vinick entered the race, Fowler couldn't transition back to governor, and Treyman walked away with a close win. Treyman was never a very popular governor and never really seemed to find his footing. He fought in 2010 to keep his seat, but lost to his Attorney General, Republican Dan Pritchard

Prior Holds Off Styles Surge in Dramatic Day in Texas

Governor Phil Prior successfully held off the late surge by conservative favorite Dalton Styles to secure the Republican nomination in a dramatic day of primary surprises in Texas.

Prior, who was costing to victory until Styles picked up the endorsement of leading right wing leader Ethan Butler, edged his unfancied opponent by a mere 4 points leading some pundits to suggest he enters the General Election compromised and needing to shore up support amongst the right of the party.

Governor Prior will now face former Vice-President John Hoynes in November. Hoynes, won the uncontested Democratic primary and immediately attacked Prior as “a failed Governor” and called on Texas voters to “reject more of the same”.

In the Senate primary in the race to replace outgoing Senator Barton Hopkins State Party Chairman Davis Roberts secured the GOP nomination taking 47% of the vote. On the Democratic side Kathleen Leech sneaked through a crowded primary but now faces an up hill battle against Roberts.

Good news!!!!
I have finally finished the UK 2000 General Election results other than I have just got to do the Northern Irish seats.
I will post the PDF in the next couple of days, I am going to be out of the loop for a day or so, as I have a minor operation Friday.
Its very exciting if you like UK elections, espically in the popular vote although Labour won a 41 seat majority down from 101 in 1996, the popular vote is almost a deadheat. It shows how different things where for this worlds Conservative Party compared to OTL. It is basically a "closer" version of OTL 2005 election, but what it does do is set up the 2004 election and the "minority" Conservative Government.

New Publishing House to Release Alternate History Work.

A new publishing venture, Disputed Communications, has announced that it will be releasing it's first work, a volume of political alternate history composed by "some of the finest minds in politics today."

The volume will be edited by NBS chief political analyst Mark Bunn, with contributions by Timothy Thomason, Brian D. Westbrook, Peter D. Rometheus, and Senators David Kuhio and Jay Cruger. Graphics were done by design firm, A Better America.

The volume, the predicted first in a series, will have several "points of departure" from reality, including:
-What if John Hoynes had been the Democratic nominee in 1998?
-What if Arnold Vinick had won the Presidency?
-What if Jed Bartlet had a Democratic majority in Congress?
-What if Ricky Meyer's Labour government had held on in Great Britain?
-What if the Reagan Affair hadn't happened?

The book, which has not yet been titled, is scheduled for release in late summer.
Please be sure to publish excerpts on Bartlet's Democratic Majority and Vinick's presidency. Please do!
