There are two problems that need to be cleared first, I'd say, and CW needs to be around to answer it: what, more exactly, was the disaster/s that caused the entire situation, and exactly when did they occur? Making histories could be rather hard without those two being known (for instance, in my country, it'd be different depending on whether Republican France existed, or not).

Okay as we can edit up to a week now, I say we post our nations without the history or military listed. This is simply an action to feed you hungry wolves until all info is in. So just make your nation. Cause to me the detailed world ending event is not needed, just "hey a meteor hit the earth gave us five years of winter and seven years of conflict after that so.... look around revolution, death, and change."

History:

It was 1800. The large, horrid meteors struck from the sky decimating everything. The city of Venice, shielded by the lagoon and the Alps, stayed safer than many of the other cities, laying only 20% destroyed. Because of that, Venice was able to reassert its territories, as well as take in refugees from the cruel winter (which Venice lay protected once again by the Alps.) It consolidated its hold over its former lands, and the people more than happily joined the Venitians. Revolutionary Frenchmen also appeared from the north, crossing the Alps in search of a safe haven. They at first tried to conquer the land, but failed and later was taken in by the Venitian court. Then, tragedy fell upon Venice as its former Doge, Doge Lorenzo Maximilio II de Padua, Comte de Venise, died which left the country parlyzed as a huge influx of immigrants rushed to Venices borders for safe refuge. Suddenly, a man, a legend, a hero for his people, Lord Lorenzo Benovo de Milano, Comte de Milano, led his 50,000 or so people into Venice through mile and miles of wilderness and bandit lands, which gained him some of the utmost respect from the Venitians, which also led to his ascension to the crown of Venice. With him, and the French revolutionaries, the plutocracy (rule of the rich over the poor) was disbanded and a new State Council formed( the equivalent of the Parliament) made up of former nobles and prdinary peasants, who increasingly became middle class. Although much of the world soon lost it connection to Venice, Venice did not lose connections to the world. It refitted its navy, which soon nubered as much as its old fleet, and reformed its army, which although was smaller than usual, was one of the most elite units in the world. The rest was filled in with rushing refugee units, which were made up of Croatian, Slovenian, Ragusan, Tuscan, but most importantly, Milanese units. These were good units as well, but not as good as the elite Venitians. Anyways, now Venice looks toward the future to become once again, the most beautiful and richest city in the world. And either with a gun in public (unlikely) or with the white flag, Venice shall secure this goal. Even if it means waving the white flag but pulling the trigger under the auspacies of neutrality...

In the following years, the Highlanders worked closely together to rebuild what they had lost in regards to industry and agriculture. In this environment, the idea of the Clans (long suppressed by the English) returned stronger then ever. Soon enough everyone belonged to one Clan or another and it quickly became the basis for Government with the Clan Chiefs becoming the leaders of the new Republic of the Clans.

In 1830, the Republic headed south into the lowlands to reclaim the great cities, industry and resources avaliable. The capital was moved from Inverness to Edinburgh and the shipyards of Glasgow were re-opened.

Stronger then ever before, many in the Republic now dream of re-uniting the British Isles under their rule and have vowed that nothing will stop them. Not Famine, nor disease, nor Englishmen.
