DBWI AH Challenge: Two Viet Nams

Your challenge, should you accept it, is to split Viet Nam into two countries with a POD no earlier than 1900. It does not matter what forms these countries use.

(OOC: Now, before you start whining and complaining about this being a repetition of OTL, remember that it's a DBWI.)

You could have the French give independence to the protectorates of Annam and Tonkin but keep the colony of Cochinchina. Would that be enough? If not, then somehow get Cochinchina to become independent but ruled by the white minority, kinda like South Africa and Rhodesia. No idea why the local French would push for this, maybe in reaction to the métropole trying to introduce majority rule, ceding the colony to Vietnam or going communist.

Some kind of Chinese invasion/liberation in WWII, with the Chinese Civil War leading to the Kuomintang forming a state in the south instead of fleeing to Taiwan?

The rise of a Communist Metropolitan France or the survival of a Vichy One, and some US or Kuomintang supported series of wars in the French Colonies (including Vietnam) between Free French and the Totalitarians in the Mainland?
