WI: No Gerrard slip in 2014

Steven Gerrard's fateful and unfortunate slip against Chelsea arguably ended Liverpool's hope for its first Premier League title. In the absence of the infamous Gerrard slip, the game would most likely have ended in a goalless draw.

While Liverpool could still have lost the title to Man City due to goal difference if it fails to win against Crystal Palace in TTL, I would argue that Liverpool would have had the morale and determination to avoid it. But your thoughts?

If Liverpool won the title, would Luis Suarez still have gone to Barcelona in the next season, or it could be delayed for another season? Would the first top division title in 24 years have propelled English Liverpudian players to play better in FIFA World Cup 2014? Lastly, would Brendan Rodgers still be in charge as of today, had the Gerrard slip not happened?

Luis Suarez might consider his mission accomplished and left anyway, but LFC would had a larger transfer market clout ITTL (Suarez for Alexis Sanchez with cash deal for example).

If Brendan Rodgers still got sub-par performance this season, his 2013-14 title would ensure longer survival.

It's easy to pick out one moment in isolation, but in reality they were in a downward slide, the 'Transfer Committee' would still be around, signing players that didn't fit the system Brendan preferred. Suarez would still have his eyes turned by Barca and quite possibly still goes off the rails in Brazil.

In short, you probably still get to the point they are at now, just that Rodgers is probably a bit more highly thought of, improving his chances of getting a decent, new job. Turning Liverpool into regular title challengers needs a lot more than removing one slip...

As a huge LFC fan I am alas in agreement with the rest of the commenters. Winning the league would have been awesome but Luis was always on the move and the drop in form his departure brought would still have happened, bringing Rodger's eventual downfall (although he might have got a few more games before the axe fell). The Yanks don't care about history "Business is business and where in the business of winning", ect ect.
