The Colombians steadily lose ground to FARC from the 1980s onwards, and in 2000 the U.S-backed Colombian government is toppled and a FARC government hostile to the United States is installed. A resultant butterfly is that Hugo Chavez never comes to power in Venezuela, as the U.S pours more funds to prop up the Venezuelan government.
