You mean the Victorian English? Given that the Victorians were far more accommodating regarding sexual relations, as an example, I don't think there would be much difference. However, one must keep in mind the average temperature and weather we are considering. I don't see Albert being that favorable of Nudism, he was a bit more conservative than Victoria I believe.

On many levels Modern Society is a few degrees more conservative than the Victorian Era.

I guess it would have a massive impact on British society. "Victorian principles" would have a completely different meaning. You can be sure that everyone would want to follow.
Consequences? Two possibilities. People could freely outlive their sexuality without having a bad conscience instead of doing everything (maybe pervert) in the closet. This could also have consequences for what people think about homosexuality. (Good for people like Oscar Wilde or, later, Alan Turing.) OTOH, not everyone looks exactly like a supermodel (especially not then), so people could either lose lust for sex.
BTW, I remember that Kaiser Wilhelm II was a nephew of Vicky. What do you think he'd think about that?

I think this touches on a point made by many historians. The trend towards sexuality had been one of more accomodation and liberalization since the Enlightenment had removed much social control from the churches. Victorianism was reactionary in that it suggested that people should not enjoy sex at all, and should be modest in its regard. The real POD should be if someone other than Victoria were the monarch of England, what would the consequences of sexual morality be.

Sometimes I feel the same. My former Girlfriend on the other hand wanted to visit evry shitty castle and similar things in england. I got enraged when I saw the people admiring the nobeles for their wealth, forgetting where it came from.

Where are you from, Romulus?

BTW, why did you choose the emperor that lost the empire?

I get the Feeling that lots of you equate Nudistism with increased Sexually. In fact Nudists are generally more modest as reguards the Sexual revelution. . You rapidly get desenitized, and almost forget about, what the people you are with are not wearing.

Most people use clothes to hide behind, or to accent their best [sexyist] feature. The use of clothes to tantalize and Excite, is completly absent in nudist colonies.

The biggest effect would be in the- Fashion -area, and the second biggest would be in the -Beach/Swimming -area

Nudism actually has nothing to do with sexuality. It is only we non-nudists who read sexuality into it. I had some friends once who were nudists who invited me to join them at the local "colony," clothed, of course. It was all pretty tame. Except I saw some things uncovered that would be better left covered. By the way, does this topic bring to mind that famous picture of Victoria in her later years (where she's sitting and looking stern in her black dress)...with a slight alteration? <shudder>

I wrote a TL where he poisoned Odoacer and ruled for fifty years, raising the Empire from its grave. Go figure. That's why it's my alias.

That's not at all fair. Victoria was an old lady by then, and additionally pretty much broken by the grief for Albert which dominated her latter life. Early portraits had her as not at all bad.

Isn't nudism in fact a Victorian movement? Sort of along the lines of Kellogg's Road to Wellness philosophy which was VERY anti-sexual.

OK, I admit, nudism doesn't automatically mean that people start to become sexually liberated. But still I think: If nudism became a mass movement (or at least fashionable - and it would be if the queen herself did it), people wouldn't think that sex itself is a sin you have to be ashamed for. They wouldn't exactly start orgies, but they'd be more relaxed about sex, at the very least.
