Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to have the Soviet Union collapse between 1980 and 1985 with a POD no earlier than 1970. Bonus points if it happens in 1984 and there's a war with China. Extra points if it's 1980 rather than 1984.

What about a more serious Central Asian conscripts' uprising in 1980 (due to discopntent over invading Afghanistan) which spreads thruout all the other main ethnic minorities in the Red Army and permeates into wider Soviet society too ?
