I had a dream!

I don't know whether this is the right place to post this question. Last night I had a dream and I wonder if it could be based on something I've read.

The bits and pieces I remember found me in the early 18th century in a world where Charles 'II' had died during the Civil War and nobody wanted his brother James as a Restoration king so (I assume) the Restoration never happened. James tried an invasion was easily defeated. The Lord Protector was Peter (?) Ireton and I was on a wild search for decent Italian shoes being guided on the way of that world by Alexander Pope.

Can anyone tell me if the outline (apart from the shoes) sounds familiar or should I reduce my medications?
