On the subject of National Socialist symbolism, here is the mind-numblingly illogical story of the evolution of a political symbol in Germany.

During the 30's, the SDP and KDP decided that alongside the dusty old socialist red flags and hammers, they needed easily recognisable symbols with which to counter the Nazi bent cross. These symbols were supposed to show that the left was attacking Fascism directly rather than just ignoring it. The Social Democrats came up with the three arrows, symbolising anti-Monarchism, anti-Bolshevism and anti-Nazism in one, the Communists came up with this. Anti-Fascist Action, of course, meant been against both the National Socialists and the 'Social Fascists' of the SDP.




Here it is on display on the Communist Party headquarters, which is now the HQ of the Links Partei.

Both the Social Democrats and the Communists were deluding themselves however, and the Nazis swept to power in spite of Otto Wels trying to reason with Hitler in the Reichstag and Thälmann's unheeded calls for armed resistance. After the war, however, the symbol would live on as a Europe wide symbol of Anti-Fascism, not among the Communists but among the Anarchists, who turned one of the flags black to symbolise their ownership of it.

But AFAIK, the real Republic of Hatay never used a red star in their insignia - that's just a misconception caused by the third Indiana Jones movie and Clavework Graphic's two AH renditions of planes flying in the colours of that fictionalized version of the country.
