Soviet civil wars

I've seen various AH's where the USSR undergoes some sort of civil war, often pre-WWII.

Here's one by Dale Cozort where it's Trotsky vs. Stalin in 1926.

Here's another where Stalin was behind Sergei Kirov's murder, but Kirov survives and rallies a rebellion against him.

In both cases, the second faction is based in Leningrad, which makes sense I suppose.

And here's a fairly Turtledove-esque silly one in a CSA victory timeline that simply states "Stalin breaks away from Lenin, viewing his use of Communism as too soft and useless" before the Tsarists are even completely defeated. For some reason, Stalin is also based in Moscow. Later Lenin dies and Trotsky succeeds him. Go figure.

So how plausible is any of this.

There was a Soviet Civil War IOTL post-WWII, so it's not all that implausible based on an OTL basis. Also the wars in the 1989-1991 period in the SSRs could be treated as Soviet Civil Wars in a sense.

The August coup could have set off a civil war.

Yes. Those were definitely what would qualify as a Civil War in the case of other countries at the time.

Well sure, but you have to take into consideration that for example Ukrainian insurgency was strong and had popular support only on territories acquired in 1939 and 1945. So could be called also as resistance against occupation.

Or the 2011/12 protests about the elections, the biggest in almost 20 years.

Would Kirov, or Trotsky, or any of the other contemporary Soviets really be able to rally an effective opposition to Stalin?
