There's a difference between what people self-identify as, and what the Nazis would accept though. I suspect that a lot of those German-Americans would be seen as just another bunch of American mongrels by the Nazis.

Your inclusion of Southern Nevada in the former Arizona/New Mexico territories is quite realistic, and something not done often enough, as I'm rather sure the area could've been gained at the peace talks. You made an attempt at altering internal borders. Not enough of them, but it shows you did put some thought into it. The Nicaragua Canal, while too wide(which I am perfectly happy to write off as simply being enlarged to give the people viewing the map the knowledge that it is, indeed, there ), I like because even though Turtledove had it in his series, few maps try to have something similar. Now the bad. I'm going to go easy on you, you've only got 14 posts, and while the map is ugly, I will certainly say you put far more thought into it than most newbs. For one, you didn't colour in all the white areas owned by the CSA. Areas in annexed Mexico, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina and the east-west instead of north-south divide of the Territories. specifically. However, while I doubt this is the case(sorry), some of those I could see as being either owned by the Union, or by Mexico. Namely the Louisiana and Floridian bits, and possibly that island to the east of Baja. Two, given the rest of the map, external borders should be shown as thicker than internal. While not a spectacular first try, it is certainly above what most new guys post.

Here's the WIP of the sequel to this map.
The son of Prince Louis of France and Queen Constance of England, Prince Philip, was married to the daughter of Elias, Count of Maine in 1107, despite him only being 9 years of age. A year later the 27 year old Prince of France, Louis, became King Louis VI after the death of his father, bringing the union of France and England one step closer. In 1103 the Norwegian King, who had taken over the Kingdom of Mann not too long beforehand, signed an alliance with the King of Munster (also High King of Ireland) against the Kingdom of Connaught. In the ensuing war the Kingdom was divided, the eastern, inland half went to the High King, whilst the western side was annexed by Norway, and Magnus III of Norway declared himself Magnus I of Connaught. Sometime in the 1110's the County of Champagne was at war with France, in which King Louis VI continued his fathers policy of expansion by annexing all Champagne lands outside of the heartland of Champagne itself. In 1125 Magnus, son of the Danish King Niels, claimed the Swedish throne due to being the grandson of Inge the Elder, father of his mother. After this he had his potential rival to the Danish throne, his cousin Canute Lavard, murdered in order to ensure his future ascension to the thrones of Denmark and Jórvík. In 1131 he found himself in a civil war with the half-brother of Canute, Eric Emune. At first he performed poorly, however when King Niels of Denmark and Jórvík got involved with his Anglo-Danish troops the war turned in Magnus' favour and, after months of fighting, Eric was slain on the field of battle, leaving Magnus with no major opposition to the thrones of Denmark and Jórvík. In 1127 the County of Flanders was up for grabs after the murder of Count Charles, thus Louis VI seeked to further his families fortunes. Thus he marched with an army into Flanders and demanded they accept Louis' cousin, Ralph I, Count of Vermandois, as their new Count. Despite an attempt by Thierry of Alsace to claim the County in his name, an invasion force from England, led by Prince Philip, led to the County being put under control with a number of months and Thierry was captured and his brother, Simon I, Duke of Lorraine, was forced to bail him for a heavy amount of money. In 1134 the King of Navarre, García IV, married Eleanor of Aquitaine, the heir to the dukedom of the Duchy of Aquitaine, despite her being just 12 at the time. Just three years later Eleanor's father had died, making her the Duchess of Aquitaine. By the age of 16 she was pregnant and had had a child near her 17th birthday - Prince Sancho. During this time tensions between Navarre and its main rival, Aragon, grew to near-breaking point as Aragon coveted Navarre land. Also in 1134 the King of Denmark, Niels, passed away, leaving his son and sole-heir to take over the throne of Denmark and Jórvík, uniting both crowns with the Crown of Sweden, a country he'd been King of for 9 years. Despite having been King of Sweden for a longer period of time, he immediately went to Denmark and took up his place as King there. In 1136 King Louise VI of France died in his sleep, after which his 38 year old son took the throne as King Philip II of France. He also became the de facto King of England as his mother, Queen Constance I, withdrew from all public service with grief and age, by November 1137 she would be dead and King Philip II of France also became King Philip I of England, finally uniting France and England with a personal union. King Philip I of England's coronation would be held in the Cathedral of Ouînchêtre (Winchester) due to its importance in the new French Kingdom of England. EDIT: With the unification of England, the realms of Wales became increasingly paranoid, with the Kingdom of Gwynedd seeing the need to unify the two Kingdoms in Wales he invaded the south, after a long, drawn out war Wales was unified under the Kingdom of Gwynedd, now renamed the Kingdom of Wales. This unification occurred by 1148. At the birth of her second child in 1142, Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine died from heavy internal bleeding, leaving her underage son Sancho - just 4 years old - to become Duke Sancho I of Aquitaine, despite heavy protests from the barons of Aquitaine his father, King García IV, became his regent in Aquitaine after a short, minor civil war. Two years after the ascension of Sancho to the Dukedom of Aquitaine, the Baussenque Wars began between the County of Toulouse and County of Provence (including the County of Barcelona). In the ensuing war the County of Toulouse, with support from numerous other counties and, most importantly, the Kingdom of Navarre, won a partial victory against Provence. Whilst the House of Baux claimants to the throne - Stephanie and Raymond - were assassinated during the war, the County of Toulouse still won militarily and so, though the County of Provence was under under the House of Barcelona, over half of the County was annexed by Toulouse in the peace of 1150. Also, in 1150, King García IV of Navarre passed away from an injury sustained in the war that had taken a turn for the worse. This left his 12 year old son to become both King Sancho VI of Navarre, as well as the title of Duke Sancho I of Aquitaine that he already held. This event would have consequences on both the Crown and Duchy as both sides would try and dominate the underage King and Duke. Also, to note, by 1150 the population of England is as follows: 48% French/Norman, 43% Anglo-Saxon and 9% Flemish/Dutch. In Jórvík it's Anglo-Saxon 60%, Irish 18%, Danish 16% and Scottish 6%. In Douvres it's 80% French/Norman, 11% Flemish/Dutch and 9% Anglo-Saxon, whilst in the Île de Wique it's 44% Norman, 30% French, 12% Anglo-Saxon and 11% Flemish/Dutch.

You had to quote all that for a one sentence criticism? What about it seems far-fetched? Seems plausible enough to me given the PoD.

Not hugely implausible, in real life William the Conqueror killed 100,000 people through slaughter and famine, he also salted the earth to ensure crops couldn't grow, even 17 years after the Harrying of the North the Domesday Book noted a lot of 'waste' in North England, primarily due to the Conqueror. By 1086 only 25% of the original population lived in Yorkshire, again due to his actions during the Harrying.
On a national scale this would be much more destructive and would lead to more widespread famine, especially without any possible relief from other parts of the country seeing as practically all the country has been affected by the 'Harold-William War'. With such a reduced population William is going to need people to tend whatever land is left, thus the Normans, French and Flemish are the obvious migrants, thus he encouraged them to come over and to start rebuilding England.

I like what you're doing with this, it reminds me of the mini-TL Hapsburg use to do, which is why I join AH.com, so it's nice to see it come back.

This is a map for my current TL. The POD is that Alexander Hamilton does not make it to the Annapolis Convention in time, which means a weaker Philadelphia Convention and a surviving, but amended, Articles of Confederation. Which isn't a bad thing-- as long as they can resist tearing themselves apart in civil war. Fewer countries should mean fewer conflicts (whether or not it actual does is another matter).

Hey guys, I've been looking at the stuff you've been doing with maps for ages, but this will be the first time I've shared one of my own.
This map is of a possible future, where the Euro collapses. Five poorer countries within the zone are given responsibility for the failure of the Euro. Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland are given the blame. Of these five countries, Greece and Portugal are the most untouched, accepting aid and advice from Germany, Britain, and the United States. Britain installs a puppet state in Ireland, seeing a chance to bring it back within its domain. And France rashly occupies northwestern Italy and Aragon and Catalonia, seizing Spanish and Italian equipment to substitute for the money owed it by these two nations. Elsewhere in the world, Haiti, grateful for the assistance given to it after the 2010 earthquake, chooses to become the 51st state, and Puerto Rico becomes the 52nd not long after. A newly reunited, and south-dominated Korea arrives on the world scene, and Taiwan, under international pressure, submits and becomes China's 23rd province. Despite international pressure, Russian-funded troops in Abkhazia and South Ossetia near victory over Georgia. And lastly, the conflict escalates in the Horn of Africa. After a Sudan-sponsored Somalia seizes the Ogaden province from Ethiopia, Ethiopia, secretly supported by Juba, occupies eastern Eritrea and frees the rebellious Somaliland. ![]() Last edited by Farkas; August 6th, 2012 at 02:41 AM.. |

I didn't realize I resized it. I'm a bit new to this, I'll admit. I'll try and fix that.

The British seem to have invaded the Faroes and the Koreans have givwn up their islands. One of the more major taboos would be the colouring of China.

Not at all. They have occupied most of Aragon, but almost nothing of Valencia. It's Catalonia that's been occupied.
