The premise of the show is the depiction of America 15 years after the power went off world wide. As to whether old diesel motors work or not I would say it depends on the availabliity of fuel and in the promos for the show it is clear that world governments have fallen and the system of inferstructure we depend on to transport goods and services has collapsed. So there is no fuel. I am looking forward to this show and hope the network will give it a change instead of being network stupid and pull the plug after 3-4 weeks if it is not an instant hit and put another stupid reality show on.

People you are being to harsh. There will obviously be a logical internally consistent reason for the lack of batteries, steam power, diesel, smokeless powder firearms, and any other concerns that have been brought up. It's not like a t.v. would ever possibly just half ass their research?
![]() Yeah this show looks like crap. Who is the fan base for this show supposed to be? The average person won't watch it because the premise is weird. People like us will watch the first episode decides it sucks and not watch it anymore. Seems like Terra Nova again. |

It'll either be brilliant or mind-numbingly dumb. There will be steam engines eventually according to one article I read.

Like someone else pointed out -- I'm not entirely sure who this show is supposed to be aimed at. Most of the sci-fi geeks are going to watch the first episode for the sole purpose of ripping it to shreds here and on facebook and then never bother watching again.

Oh, Revolution.
![]() Because we know there'll be a shortage of guns and ammo after 90% of the population has died off and an abundance of fresh clothes from all these AC-less malls and trashed shops open to the wrath of the climate. And, of course, the only organized force we know of are somehow the bad guys but, despite their organization, don't have better weapons for their rank and file than flintlocks and melee arms.

Did anyone see the magic crossbow that stores all the energy in the string, not in the arms?
I've never physically seen a crossbow (pictures don't count), but I have a pretty good idea how they work. Having the arms facing away from the user doesn't even look the slightest bit cooler. ![]()

Shaved and clean, though, it's another story. This series look like a goddamn cozy catastrophe where living standards don't change. I want to see suffering, distress and struggle in apocalyptic fiction, not some goddamn "Lost in the EMBERVERSE!" show. Lost, by the way, was a complete waste of time. Quote:
![]() And yes, they do look like a crossbow's dorkish relative. Moreover, they look complex and prone to breskdowns due to wear. Simple is better. Regardless, I think anyone with a Remington 700 could dispatch that silly militia group well before they got within effective range with their muskets (which I presume fire round bullets, because minie balls are too complex).

I'm kinda surprised that after they screened the pilot at Comic-Con nearly a month ago nobody has leaked it on the web. NBC's keeping a tight control, it seems.

It's just started to air on Sky 1 in the UK.
I watched most of the first episode and all of the second. It's OK without being outstanding. I'll continue watching, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it. The only really terrible thing I can say about it is that the blonde woman who's meant to be British. I say meant as she clearly isn't. The pseudo-British accent is abysmal. No one speaks like that! You couldn't even say it's Estuary English. |

Perhaps.
She doesn't sound Australian though. It's very much a pseudo-British accent. |
