I couldn't think of a way to make a map that was good enough, to my own standards. Maybe the next one.

What if the contestants were allowed to make up a crazy person?

My first reaction was that this would would be too open-ended, but... maybe not.

I think making up a person with an unconventional ideology and then having them randomly gain power would be much too vague and unfocused, and I don't really see how it could result in interesting maps.

Well, at this point it certainly looks like "Air, Water, Earth, Fire" is the most popular challenge suggestion for MotF 64. If anyone would prefer a different challenge, or if they approve of "Air, Water, Earth, Fire" but haven't said so, now would be a great time to mention it!

Trianon

Show a map of a defeated country being broken up into smaller states after a War.

Some OTL examples: Treaty of Trianon (1920), Treaty of Sèvres (1920), Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1919), Treaty of Granada (1500), Treaty of Campo Formio (1797)

Maybe something like...

United we Stood, Divided we Fall...

This seems a good challenge. I think that either Trianon or United we Stood, Divided we Fall would work.

Seven! I just seem to make those types of challenges that excites people's imaginations...

Hmm, I like the idea, but some of the examples don't seem to actually conform to the challenge:

- The Treaty of Granada essentially lead to the annexation of Granada to Spain.
- The Treaty of Campo Formio mostly concerned France annexing bits of Austrian territory.
- The Treaty of Sèvres concerned the annexation of parts of the Ottoman Empire by other countries.

As I said, I like the idea, but only the break up of Austria-Hungary seems to meet the criteria - unless you count peaceful break ups like Yugoslavia and the USSR - and I want to make sure we're all interpreting the challenge the same way before we agree to it!

I'm sorry, but that makes you sound rather arrogant - especially considering seven entries is about average!

There were multiple treaties of Granada (hence why I put 1500), the 1500 treaty partitioned Naples between Spain and France.

Campo Formio had the Venetian republic partitioned between France and Austria.

For the Treaty of Sevres, I should have broadened the description to include having parts of the defeated country annexed by other existing countries.

I guess it should be broadened to Peaceful partitions / divisions as well.

I'd rather the challenge was about a country being broken up into new countries, as we already had a challenge where a harsh peace was forced on the losing side of a war in MotF 31: All You Can Annex Buffet.

Of course, I'd be willing to rerun that challenge if it's popular (it was over 30 rounds ago), I just prefer the idea of maps showing a country being broken up into multiple new, small countries.

Alright, we could make it being broken up into just new countries then. (perhaps some minor annexations would be allowed)

Oh. Sorry! I didn't mean to be arrogant. At least I don't make terrible ideas...

Well if we're using Austria-Hungary as the main OTL example then annexations would definitely be allowed.

Alright then, so would Trianon be the next MOTF challenge? or does there need to be a vote to decide the challenge or something.

I'm done for either Air, Water, Earth, Fire or for Trianon. (Though the latter needs a slightly more descriptive name. "Shades of Trianon", maybe? Or possibly something more generic--"Featuring A New Cast"? "Acorns From A Fallen Oak"? "Heads Of The Hydra"?

I second the support for Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Trianon, and also support the renaming of the latter to Heads of the Hydra (I really really like that name).
