The UCS and Basemap Series News Thread
Over in the Basemap Hub it has become increasingly clear to me that we are currently suffering from a lot of repeated requests and queries with regards to the existence or correct usage of basemaps or colour schemes. The Wiki has already been updated to include the updated colour scheme, most of the new maps and a lot of the older ones, but it is clear that simply directing people to the wiki in thread is not the most efficient way of doing things. This thread is, therefore, a triple purpose one:
-> Firstly as a formal broadcast of the existence and updated nature of the wiki -> Secondly as a general index of the maps currently known to be in existence and on the wiki, along with update progress currently. -> Thirdly as a point to make general announcements of major revisions to the basemap (hopefully we won't have any of these now), colour scheme additions or removals (ditto) and periodic updates on new basemap completions/updates. Please refer to the Wiki before asking about the existence of maps for a particular year. Links The Revised Basemap Database on the Wiki The Basemap Hub: most post-2008 maps are here. There may be some in the thread we've missed for the wiki, and this is also where the updates are discussed. Older Map Threads: There may be some very old maps here, but a lot of the later pages are non-editable reference maps. Index of Current Wiki Maps Note: Current colour scheme is the Revised (RCS) version of the UCS. Many maps done by specific members have been done in a different colour scheme, the ICS, while a few used completely seperate schemes. Even the most updated maps may have border changes in future. Remember the 1492 map. It's not the MOST updated, but its far more updated than the original.

I finished to remove the rivers on this 814 map. I've the weakness to think that it's more accurate than 800's one : Nanzhao, by exemple, is now on the right place.
But i don't know if i'm authorized to add it directly on the wiki. Just a question, when we say [YEAR], we're thinking of the 15 July or 1st January? I would propose this : we have to precise the day or the month of the year, in order to avoid contradictory and "anachronistic" drawns. Following this exemple, this map would be the one of the 28th of January 814

That's an expression, i meant "are we showing the beggining of the year, or when it's half-passed?"

BTW, let's make sure not to turn this into another discussion thread. The date bit is only because it's a helpful thing to make known. |

I added a substantial number of maps and patches to the wiki repository that were compiled in the Base Maps thread.
I've split the timeline patches up into a folder showing political changes, and one showing the geographical changes. I've added about 30 patches to the political timeline section, and 1 patch to the geographical section. To the pre-1900 map dump I've added 1450 BC, 550 BC, 1 AD, 1560, 1789, wolf brother's entire Napoleonic series (1800-1815), 1816, 1848, and 1865. Also, at this point the pre-1900 map dump has become so large that I feel further categorization would be desirable, even in their unfinished state. |

pre-1900 Map dump split into 4 (provisionally), pre-475, 475-1492, 1492-1776 and 1776-1900. The third's a bit light on content, but the ones on either side are bulky.

Moving this to the wiki subforum, since it's very slow moving. If someone would like to make a general mapmaking resources and Q&A thread, I'll sticky that.
