Is a WW1 DMZ possible...

of the kind that seperates North and South Korea today? A military zone running along the OTL trench lines of 1914/1915? And if so, how would one have been created during WW1,and how long would it have lasted for?

I think there would be substantial political problems in getting the French government to accept this in 14-15. A major reason behind the seemingly senseless French attacks was that it was politically unacceptable to have the Germans holding so much French territory. The British and the Belgians are somewhat irrelevant to this consideration, since their contribution is so much smaller. However, the French government would also desire not to alienate them (Britain more than Belgium) in case of a new outbreak of war.

I think it would be difficult to achieve, since it requires the same sort of conditions as peace talks, which either side would consider a sign of weakness on the part of their enemy, but offers only the benefit of respite. The French IOTL weren't in dire straits until '17, by which time the British are a major consideration in Entente strategy, and the Russians may have dropped out completely. So, er, tricky, I'd say. Distinctly tricky.

ONLY Way would have been if WWI had Developed into The Same Sort of Conflict ...

A Horrific, Bloody Abattoir, that Degenerates into a Peace of Exhaustion ...

If The AEF Never Enters The Fight, it Might just be Possible; Otherwise The Western Allies will Simply Swarm The Germans as in OTL!

Innovative idea!

What if the final stop line had swung back almost to the border? Or if the DMZ would mostly take territory from say, Belgium or the Netherlands?
