The White House Burn down
WI some accidental electrical fire burned down the white house at some point during the post 1950's (I know it's vague but I couldn't get myself to choose a precise decade)

In 1949 (I believe), a piano leg broke through a floor in the residence: that prompted a complete gutting and rebuilding of the structure. That said, it's not hard to imagine a lightning strike sometime in the 1920s setting fire to the place.

I think it will depend on the popularity of the President; if he is then it may be seen as nothing more than an accident. If he isn't I could see some actually claiming it was divine, punishing him for whatever (eg Clinton, for his game of hide the cigar).
I don't know much about architectual trends in America, is there any period when the rebuilding would be more 'contemporary' or is it likely it would always be rebuilt as before? |
