Adolf and amphetamines
It is almost certain that Hitler took a lot of amphetamines and downers the last few years of his life. What if he never took any amphetamines or anything like them, what difference would it have made?

from what I've read, Morell was a whopping quack of a doctor. Among the things he prescribed for Hitler was very hot baths and injections of diluted strychnine (!)

Yes, that is a logical conclusion.
What % of people make better decision as drug addicts than before they became addicted? Very close to 0.

It is also worth noting that British Prime Minister Anthony Eden was taking large doses of an amphetamine and barbiturate combination called Drinamyl during the Suez Crisis. Drinamyl was banned in 1978, among its side effects are listed that is can cause impaired judgement, paranoia and detachment with reality.
And of course John Kennedy was was receiving regular large injections of amphetamine from Dr Jacobson (“Dr Feelgood”) during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Strychnine, like amphetamines, acts as a stimulant at low doses. Athletes used to take it to improve endurance. They used to give it to racehorses as well.

maybe, but if a doctor told me that he was going to give me an injection of strychnine because it was good for me, I'd at least get a second opinion. Apparently, one of the reasons Morrell gave him the injections was because, along with all the other abuse Hitler did to his health, he also got by on very little sleep every night...

Maybe I should have mentioned this was inspired by "The medical casebook of Adolf Hitler : his illnesses, doctors, and drugs" by Leonard L. Heston. Very interesting.

None whatsoever as Hitler retaining all centralized power in his hands is strategically unworkable and by 1944 the gap in favor of the Allies is incapable of changing in the favor of the Axis regardless of what the Axis do or do not do.

If Nazis weren't real, they'd be called a near-perfect situation for a novel, the villains just threatening enough to scare the pants off of everyone but for inherent reasons incapable of ever closing their victories fully. Like if someone had tried to take High Fantasy Dark Lords and make them real life rulers of a state subject to the rules of logistics and the iron law of attrition. |
