TL-191 United States Presidential Election 1876.

Ooh. One of those elections that define American history, really. Let me tell you. If Tilden is voted, then the Second Mexican War will happen under Blaine. If Hayes wins, who knows?

Democratic Nomination

President: Samuel J. Tilden, of New York
Vice President: Joel Parker, of New Jersey

Republican Nomination

President: Rutherford B. Hayes, of Ohio.
Vice President: Joseph R. Hawley, of Connecticut.*

* He was born a Southerner, from North Carolina, but rejected it in the War of Secession, and moved to Connecticut.

The Tilden-Parker ticket isn't very geographically diverse. Also, even if Hawley renounced his birth state of North Carolina, would the Republicans really want him as their VP? I don't think they'd want to hurt their chances like that.

Actually, I never said I thought they were good or bad picks -- I just asked why not the OTL VPs. It's your call, though.

Ah. Oh, well, just leave them in, this election will not be that notable, really.

Im surprised you didnt throw in the Greenbacks or Prohibition. That might deflate the Republicans.

I wanted a semi-realistic TL that we could plausibly flesh out at the end. The winning of several one-election parties damages this realism, so I excepted them, and they wouldn't have existed in TL-191, because of butterflies.

Bump. It appears that Hayes wins, unlike OTL.
