The United States of America limited to the above map with a POD after 1789, and no end of the world-like event.
Note: Interior borders are arbitary and can be whatever you want

The Hartford Convention during the War of 1812 results in New England seceding. Then for some reason the Civil War happens at some point, resulting in the South seceding. Oh, and the Toledo War results in Michigan seceding, too.

Worse War of 1812 means the UK annexes Michigan, and NY plus New England leave.

The rest of the United States suffers a Civil War...probably in the 1870's or 1880's, judging from Kentucky and Virginia's decision to remain in the "North". Since there aren't any western territories, I'll assume that the "North" seceded from the "South" when a slave-state dominated Congress passed some really unreasonable laws dealing with fugitive slaves and/or ending any tariffs.

Missouri gets divided between the free north and the slave-holding south in the European-brokered peace.

So, a bigger Canada, Confederacy, and an independent New England?

Sounds awesome!

But, the Civil War was over abolition, and, if I am correct, wouldn't removing New England and New York get rid of the largest abolitionist faction?
