Lost in Space 20 more years

When "Lost in Space" was cancelled, Irwin Allen said he could have kept the series going 20 more years.
What would have happened if the series had lasted a whole generation, following the quality curve it was following in its first three years?

Hey man--are you dissing "Lost in Space"? Them's fighting words! :p

Major West and Judy settle down and raise a few kids on a kuchiana farm on Vega 7

Penny and Will take over the mission when Mom and Dad retire

Robot and Dr. Smith kiss and make up and declare their love for one another. Tragically, Robot gets drunk one night on some high-grade oil after a fight with Z and ends up having a one night fling with a coffee maker. Relationship ends in recriminations but they decide to still remain friends.... :p

Actually, LiS is what got me into Science Fiction, and I was a devoted fan at the time. But even I have to admit its level was heading in the wrong direction. The last straw was "The Space Vikings" when Thor bellows "Come here!" and Smith goes across the screen with his legs flying.

OH man, I never saw Robot and Mr Coffee together, I bet Mr Radar was jealous

I grew up in Quebec and my first introduction to this show was when I was around 8 or so and I was watching them dubbed in French.

Picture that--an italian kid growing up in an english speaking home watching (badly) french dubbed Lost in Space episodes. And people at work wonder why I'm a little 'odd' :)

I was around 12 when I realized that Robot's trademark was NOT "Attention Will Robinson!" but rather "Danger Will Robinson"

Irwin Allen

The Irwin Allen SF series all had a marked tendency towards dumbing down as they progressed. The most frustrating to me was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea which had some very good episodes in its first season The first half dozen episodes of Lost in Space were OK but soon the show became A Boy and His Robot and just got worse and worse. Besides the downward slide into fatuity, another pattern to the show is about 1/4 of the episodes were Penny episodes where she got almost as much attention as the boy, robot and whining twit.

The episodes for the first half of TIme Tunnel's only season were better than the second half.

In Irwin Allen's defense Star Trek (original) also declined in quality each season.

Wow. That's gotta make you, like, some sort of Citizen of the World, or something (or Canadian).

Good story! :p

It might as well have lasted 20 years... we had that truly putrid movie version with Gary Oldman and William Hurt a few years back to revive our memories of how bad the show was in the first place.

I'd rather watch 'Land of the Lost' reruns. Or even 'Doctor Shrinker'. :p

Give 'em another year and they will have a Land of the Lost movie!

Actually to keep a AH/OT thread going... I remember an episode of Farscape where Chriton was bouncing through wormholes to different points in his past (like back to teh permire of the series)...

....While LiS, (all versions of) Star Trek have the retro chram to them I like something with a little more darkness and bite in it (Farscape, Babylon 5).

How about an AH where Star Trek wasn't cancled, fizzled out and has not become the cult following it is today?

There was a LiS episode where Smith travels back in time and avoids going on the Jupiter 2. His "lost" weight deviates the trajectory of the ship and it collides with an asteroid, so the robot goes back in time and gets him back on the ship.
