Shang Civilization

By the time of the Shang, the Chinese were quite behind the other river valley civilizations of the world.

What if Chinese civilization arose earlier? What if it arose later?
 
It likely took time for agriculture to find its way across from Mesopotamia across Central Asia or India to China.

As long as the Ice Age lasted, the climate of anywhere exposed to Atlantic (and likely also Pacific) Ocean weather was wildly variable and people had to live by nomadic hunting only.

If it did. I think most people go for indigenous development these days.
