I am rather fond of the old soldier's song
"All quiet along the St Lawrence tonight
Except here and there a stray picket
Is shot as he walks on his beat to and fro
By a rifleman hid in the thicket..."
though for sheer verve it's hard to beat the marching song of the 2nd Yorkshire Rifles (Prince of Wales' Own)
"Some of them came from London
Some of them came from Kent
Some of them came from Portsmouth
From Bristol or from Gwent
Some of them came from Derby
From Glasgow or from Cork
But the boys that kicked the Fe-ni-ans
Were the boys from the town of York"
I know you guys are patriots and all that, but if I have to listen to "From the Halls of the Mikado to the Shores of Britanny..." one more time - I just can't stand the tune.
