Territories: Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Tranquebar, Danish Bengalen, Faeroes, North Albiengien (Hamburg, Holstein and Lauenburg), Skåne (Southern Sweden), Danish West Africa (Ghana) and Baltic Duchy (Estonia).
Armed Forces:
Well equiped and used to fighting smaller wars overseas the armed forces of the United Kingdoms went to war in 1860 with supreme selfconfidence…
Army:
Royal Danish Army/Kongelige Danske Hær: 250,000 (~ 800,000 fully mobilised).
The old Valdemar-kings used the Ledings Fleet to great effect. The system slowly evolved into a kind of conscription thus creating a modern day citizens army with levy en masse.
- Infantry: 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th , 7th and nummerous independent brigades and regiments.
- Royal Guard: 2 Brigades, one Foot Guard (1 Old and 1 Young Guard battalion) and one Horse Guard (Hvy Cav), organised in the 1st Divison.
- Cavalry: 4th Division, 2 brigades and several independent regiments
- Artillery: Some 25-30 batteries with between 8-12 guns each, and special batteries with motars and heavy guns.
Navy:
Royal Danish Navy/Kongelige Danske Flåde: ~105,000.
During the reign of King Hans I the Royal Danish Navy was founded as a real fleet in the modern sense of the word with dedicated shops of the line. Around 1845 the RDN began constructing ironclads, some 10 years later all-steel ships were being build at Holmen and Nakskov
- Line: 21 modern steel warships of the primarily Caroline Amalie and Monarch, the Christians and the Frederiks, classes), 5 monitors of the Beowulf and 1 of the Rolf Krake class and some 40 frigates.
- Costal and reserve: 20 older iron and non-iron clad ships of the line and smaller vessels, corvettes and the like.
- Marine Corps: Some 8-10 battalions. Deployed around the world and used for fighting minor colonial wars and skirmishes. Famous in the Kingdoms for their heroic last stand in Torshavn in '67.
Airforce:
Royal Aeronatical Corps/Kongelige Aeronautiske Korps: 500.
During the War of Revolution balloons were being used as platforms for artillery oberservation. These soon took shape as true airships loaded with bombs and such like. Three airships is said to have bombed Stockholm in the spring of '63 and thus started the firestorm that nearly destroyed the city.
Wars:
1497-1509: The Kalmar and Merchant Wars. King Hans I and his son, future king, Christian I battles first the Swedes in the bloody Kalmar War and duels with The Hanseatic leagues at sea.
1520-1605: The Swedish Wars. Danish and Swedish kings fights long and protracted wars over southern Sweden and the Baltic regions.
1625-1645: The Holy Wars. Christian IV unleashes his conscripted army upon the catholics of Germany Empire. Tilly is defeated at Lutter am Barenberg and his army destroyed, sack of Aachen and Köln follows. Duing the Long March to Münich in early ’45 King Christian IV falls off his horse and dies.
1756-1769: The Colonial Wars. Denmark, Holland and France engage British forces around the globe. Bloody stalemate in India where the greater powers ekspend themselves in futile attempts to drive to others out of the subcontinent for good.
1799-1810: The Napoleonic Wars. Aided by Spain, Holland and Denmark Napoleon I sweeps across Europe and secures french supremacy for the next 150 years.
1848-1851: War of Revolution. The United Kingdom of Denmark faces internal unrest, colonial uprisings and invasions by The German Bund and Sweden.
1860-1868: The Great War. The Old Alliance, Denmark, France, Spain, Brazil, Holland, Mexico, Russia and the CSA battles The Alliance of Nations, England, Portugal, Argentine, Germany, Sweden, Japan and USA. Airships, machineguns, repeater rifles, gas and all the other wonders of the industrialised modern society makes this war the war to end all wars…
