I'm not sure the latter would be the best move in the world, it certainly didn't do Richard I a deal of good for the stability of his reign to be away for so long

So maybe he doesn't go. Or perhaps he does, and france frees itself.

I don't think he can conquer France. Bedford didn't, and he was very competent.

But the thing with Henry V is does he need to conquer France ? As the French have already submitted etc... Its different when he's dead and the 'legitimate' king is suddenly a newborn infant with uncles.
