Challenge: Italy swaps sides in WW1

Any credible reason for Italy to make Peace with Austria and invade Southern France 1917 or 1918?

Could this prolong the war?

I dunno. According to conventially held wisdom, even though the Italians were signatories of the Triple Alliance, they weren't terribly enthusiastic about the possibility of fighting the French, and in fact made some secret declarations that they wouldn't invade France if France attacked an Alliance country. Remember too that the Italians also had long-standing claims on Austro-Hungarian territory, which added to their motivation to support France.

Well not after the war had started but before the war Italy had claims on land France had received in1860 to allow for Italian unification. Also Italy wanted Corsica back and Tunisia. If Austria-Hungary had agreed faster to some of the Italian land claims and surrendered land to Italy Itla could have easily followd it's treaty obligations.
