"1720
February 7th- The First Baltic War (the OTL Great Northern War) comes to an end. Karl XII regains all of Sweden’s pre-war territorial holdings" A phrase about snowballs in hell springs to mind, recovering the Baltic provinces is totally beyond Sweden's capabilities at this point and anyway is, IMHO,unnecessary to get what I presume you want; Charles XII surviving, taking Norway and trying to expand in North America. "1724 June 23rd- Persia is partitioned between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. Russia sets her sights on Afghanistan and India." There is no way this is possible, given Russia's still very limited power-preojection capabilities. IN OTL even the Persian shore of eh Caspian Sea proved impossible to hold long term, to actually be in a position to prtition the whole state would be much harder. It's an interesting TL though, hope to see more? |
"July 4th- Three regiments of Massachusetts infantry attack and burn Quebec, Canada, revenging Boston."
How the hell can three regiments of colonials sack the most heavily fortified city in North America, which was taken in OTL only by the entire Royal Navy, and then only because of the sheer stupidity of the defenders? After, of course, all land-born invasions failed pitifully before they got anywhere near the St-Lawrence? This aside, enjoyable read so far. |

One thing, France never had Newfoundland, it was always British.
|
Quote:
Following Cabot's landfall, England made no attempt at colonization, but during the 16th century the coastal waters of the island attracted increasing numbers of French, English, and Spanish fishermen. In 1583 Sir Humphrey Gilbert took formal possession of Newfoundland in the name of England. A colony, which became St. John's, was established in 1610 on the Avalon Peninsula. During the 17th century France also acquired a foothold on the island, establishing a base of operations on the shores of Placentia Bay. French forces sacked and burned most of the English settlements on the island at one time or another and for a while seemed to have the upper hand. In 1713, however, British sovereignty over Newfoundland was recognized by the Peace of Utrecht. France retained only the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, off the south coast, and cod fisheries on the west coast. Labrador became a British possession in 1763 under the terms of the Treaty of Paris, but was transferred to Québec in 1774. It became part of Newfoundland in 1809, but the boundary with Québec remained a matter of dispute until it was settled in 1927. Despite this, Québec has kept a policy of ambiguity until 1997 regarding it's claims on Labrador. Colonization of Labrador was not undertaken until the 19th century. |

I thought you might find this interesting - it includes Dutch India, Danish India, Portuguese India etc, and gives useful geographical and chronological data There was also something I had on Napoleonic times in India - not as relevant I admit, except it gave a good deal of information as to which rulers where and how France could still exert influence over, supply with arms and advisors etc even after formally being driven from most of India after the Seven Years War. I used this latter as the basis for what French India would consist of if the British had lost the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars Grey Wolf |
btw I am not certain who owns Nice and Savoy in this period ? I would have thought Savoy had its own ruler. But pre-Revolutionary Italy is almost a blank spot in my knowledge. Also, how are you differentiating Piedmont and Savoy as geographical entities ?
