WI Apocalypse Now directed by George Lucas

I know this isn't proper etiquette on this site, but here's a good place to start, if you want to see a scenario that plays out somewhat like that:

That's a good start. Some thoughts so far:
  • Would a Lucas directed Apocalypse Now really be likely to film in the Phillipines? I would think TTL's production would be much more concerned with keeping a limited budget.
  • I agree Star Wars would likely incorporate more ideas from Lucas' earlier drafts, with the experience of AN under his belt, but if Lucas makes the latter earlier in the decade, I'd think SW would still come out around the same time as OTL. In this case, would it still be the history making box office success of OTL?
  • If Coppola wasn't directing AN (or stepping in as co-director, per the TL), would he have followed up The Godfather movies with "a romantic period film"? More generally, what might his next few films be?

Would Lucas have the temperament to get it finished? Would he have decided to get out of the business afterward?

I don't think we can overestimate just how insanely difficult and mindwarping the production on Apocalypse Now really was.

One advantage he would have was his skill with special/visual effects. He may have been able to get around the difficulties involved in getting those shots with the helicopters(the Phillipine military kept yanking them away from Coppola on short notice IOTL).

Related question -- how would the effects we're talking about (eg Coppola following up The Godfather II with a disastrous Tucker) in turn affect the other movie brats, and American cinema in general?

Given that Lucas flipped his shit when he realized that the studio cut five mins out of American Graffit and he almost had a nervous breakdown shooting Star Wars, Apocalypse Now might very well kill him.

In retrospect, I think the George Lucas-directed Apocalypse Now I wrote into AAROTB was unrealistic. I didn't quite realise just how much the OTL movie was Coppola's baby.
