Dracula Wins: Best POD for a Victorious Vlad?

hey, all. one thing i decided on a long time aho for my ASB ATL is that Wallachia persists as a country, the POD being with Vlad the Impaler himself. i'm thinking it'd probably be in 1462 and would relate to either preventing the Ottomans from crossing the Danube in the first place or somehow maintaining his winning streak after retreating to Moldavia, but i'd like some second opinions. any help on this?

Wasn't there a battle where Vlad Tepes very nearly killed the Ottoman Sultan in his camp? I feel like that would be a pretty good PoD for it.

What if in 1431, the same year that saw the birth ofPrince Vlad of Wallachia, the black death struck his mother's homeland of Moldavia, killing all of his uncles Iliaș, Stephen, Petru. Bogdan and Alexander, aswell as his cousin Stephen.
This mean on January 1, 1432, when his maternal grandfather, Prince Alexander (The Good) of Moldavia, dies, Prince Vlad being the only male heir, with the help of his father, Prince Vlad II Dracul of Wallachia and several boyars, is placed on the throne of Moldavia, with his mother, Cneajna, becoming Queen Regent.

In 1447, on the death of his father, Prince Vlad III at the age of 16, was able to unite his two inherited Principality into one larger kingdom, crowning himself as King Vlad III of România.

Have his brother, Radu cel Frumos, executed for preaching islamic views, meaing the Ottomans, will no be able to place Radu, a man less feared and less hated by the populace, compared to Vlad, on the throne of Wallachia.

Another thing that may help Vlad is to have an alliance with Ladislaus V of Hungary, also known as the Posthumous. This means that when Constantinople is laid siege on 6 April 1453, Vlad can ask for assistance to help their Christian brothers against the infernal turks, beating the Turks and starting the Ottoman–Hungarian Wars, thirteen years early.

Imagian a grand kingdom that stretches from Siret in the north-east, along to the northern port town of Cetatea Albă down the coast to the city of Constantinople, then west to the south-western city ofAlexandroupoli, up to Sofia and then west even more to Arad, then finally Nyíregyháza.

Things that could be butterflied away:
- Muslim religion in the balken region.
- Constantinople being changed to Istanbul.
- A stronger Kingdom of Romania.

i'm not sure i want to have such a necessarily radical POD where Vlad III more or less controls the Balkans, but that could make an interesting TL all on its own. of course, such a Wallachian empire could very well only be temporary. one thing i had thought of was that Wallachia escapes becoming an Ottoman vassal but becomes one of Russia instead, maintaining some semblance of independence by being a buffer state between Russian Ukraine and Ottoman Bulgaria/Thrace, and takes advantage of all the chaos and confusion of the Napoleonic Wars centuries later. i'm rather liking the POD of Vlad killing the Sultan, but wouldn't that incite a jihad against Wallachia (and possibly a crusade against the Ottomans in response?)

also, i'm having difficulties with my regular internet connectivity at present, so i may not be able to immediately reply to any further input

- Constantinople being changed to Istanbul.

IIRC Constantinople's name wasn't changed to Istanbul till after the Ottoman empire was disbanded (Istanbul is not even a proper name it simply means "In the City" in Greek) and from what I recollect the Ottoman Turks called it Konstantinye (Sic).

i think i'm gonna be operating on the Vlad-kills-the-Sultan POD mentioned before (this is Mehmed II we're talking about, right?). any ideas for what the repercussions of that could be? i'm still wondering if it would mean a jihad against Wallachia

I highly doubt Moldavia would accept an infant as their ruler. If it does, Vlad's father may be too busy sustaining the Moldavian claim to seize control in Wallachia,

In 1447, on the death of his father, Prince Vlad III at the age of 16, was able to unite his two inherited Principality into one larger kingdom, crowning himself as King Vlad III of România.

That big a change probably butterflies away the 1447 deaths of Vlad's father and older brother Mircea.

Have his brother, Radu cel Frumos, executed for preaching islamic views, meaing the Ottomans, will no be able to place Radu, a man less feared and less hated by the populace, compared to Vlad, on the throne of Wallachia.

Thus requires separating Radu from his Ottoman-backed army, which may be difficult. It also doesn't eliminate Vlad's brother Vlad the Monk, nor the sons of Dan II (Basrab II, Vladislav II, and Basrab III) as rivals for the throne.
